Beer Store Break In At approximately 11:30 pm on the 9th of September, City Police responded to an alarm at the Beer Store on Bruce Street. When police arrived, a Ford Tempo that contained three persons inside was observed in the parking lot.
Beer Store Break In

At approximately 11:30 pm on the 9th of September, City Police responded to an alarm at the Beer Store on Bruce Street. When police arrived, a Ford Tempo that contained three persons inside was observed in the parking lot. The vehicle sped off and would not stop for police. The vehicle was pursued to Macdonald Avenue where it was safely stopped and all three occupants were arrested. During the pursuit, speeds reached 100 km/hr and on one of the occupants in the vehicle was observed throwing a small plastic bag out the window. When officers checked the bag there was approximately 1.4 grams of marijuana found inside. Further investigation revealed that a large window on the south side of the Beer Store was smashed. No entry was gained. Upon search of the vehicle, officers located bolt cutters, a flash light, gloves and bandanas. The following three males have been charged and are to appear in bail court this morning:

1) The driver of the vehicle, 23 year-old Michael Paravano of 279 Northern Avenue-unit #1-3 has been charged with one count of break and enter with intent, one count of mischief under $5,000.00, one count of possession of housebreaking tools, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and one count of flight from police.

2) 19 year-old Taylor Reid of 88 Airport Road has been charged with one count of break and enter with intent, one count of mischief under $5,000.00, one count of possession of housebreaking tools and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance.

3) A 17 year-old youth has been charged with one count of break and enter with intent, one count of mischief under $5,000.00, one count of possession of housebreaking tools and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. When officers ran a check on this accused they discovered there was an outstanding warrant for him for failing to appear court on the 27th of August and he was further charged with one count of fail to appear court.

Three Counts of Breach

49 year-old Rene Lamarche of no fixed address was checked by city police on Bay Street on the 8th of September at around 11:35 pm and officers discovered that he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for being unlawfully at large for failing to report to the Northern Treatment and Remand Center on the 13th of July. It is alleged that at the time officers checked the accused, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was intoxicated. The accused was on court release conditions at the time not to consume any alcohol and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He has been charged with three counts of breach of probation and one count of unlawfully at large. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Assault

1) A 30 year-old male was arrested on the 9th of September at 12:40 am at the city police station and charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that them accused attended at his estranged wife’s centrally located address and attempted to choke her. At the time of the incident the accused was on probation with conditions not to attend at the victim’s residence. The victim received injuries that did not require medical attention. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

2) A 45 year-old male was arrested on the 8th of September at 12:05 am at the city police station and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 8th of September at around 10:30 pm the accused while intoxicated got into an argument with his wife and assaulted her by grabbing and shaking her. The incident took place at their east-end residence. The victim received injuries not requiring medical attention. The accused is to appear in court on the 17th of October.

3) 24 year-old Lindsey Yates of 44 Atwater Street was arrested at the city police station at 8:40 pm on the 9th of September and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 9th of September at approximately 1:40 am the accused was on the dance floor at a downtown bar when she assaulted a female known to her by punching her in the head. When the victim left the bar the accused punched her once again in the face area. The victim received injuries not requiring medical attention. The accused is to appear in court on the 22nd of October.

Impaired Driving

23 year-old Alisha Marini of 224 Wallace Terrace-upstairs was arrested on the 8th of September just before 1 am on St. Georges Avenue and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. It is alleged that just before 1 am on the 8th of September the accused was observed driving her vehicle westbound at a high rate of speed on St Georges Avenue. When officers stopped and checked the accused she was found to be under the influence of alcohol. She is to appear in court on the 15th of October.

The following break and enters were reported over the weekend:

1) A residence on Balfour Street was entered sometime between 9:30 pm on the 8th of September and 12:38 am on the 9th. A Lap Top and software and some jewellery were taken.

2) There was an attempt break and enter reported to a residence on Northern Avenue East on the 9th of September between 5 pm and 8 pm.

3) An apartment on Albert Street West was entered sometime on the 10th of September. A DVD player, a slow cooker and some cigarettes were reported stolen.

The following mischief reports were taken over the weekend:

1) The glass on the front door of St Paul Presbyterian Church on Cathcart Street was broken sometime overnight on the 8th of September.

2) A railing was torn off on the bridge at Kinsmen Park on Landslide Road sometime on the 8th of September.

3) There was damage and thefts from a vending machine at the Quality Inn on Bay Street sometime overnight on the 8th of September.

The city police conducted a R.I.D.E. program on Friday evening.

There were 600 vehicles checked and 7 roadside tests conducted. There was 9 Highway Traffic Act related charges laid.
