The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will by joined by staff from Shaw Cable and members of the Twin Soo Radio Club tonight to help ensure that all little ghosts and goblins are safe. The Twin Soo Radio Club has been patrolling on Halloween night for many years. This is the first year that Shaw Cable will be out in their service vans on “Pumpkin Patrol”. The extra sets of eyes and ears in the Community are appreciated.


Male Charged with Making Contact with Female

A 25-year old male will appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that between the 15th of August and the 30th of October the accused communicated several times with his ex-girlfriend. The accused was on a release order at that time with conditions not to communicate with the female. Police were notified of the incident on the 30th and the accused was subsequently arrested and charged early yesterday morning.

Impaired Driving Charges

28-year old Morgan Assiniwai (male) of no fixed address contacted the City Police on the 31st of October and turned himself in on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court for impaired driving related charges. The accused will appear in bail court this morning.

Breach of a Release

37-year old Michael Collins of 833 Bonney Street will also appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that the accused breached his probation order as well as release document conditions. It is alleged that on October 28th and 29th the accused was under the influence of alcohol. At the time of the offences the accused was on release conditions not to consume alcohol and not to be in a premise where alcohol was served. When the officers arrested the accused on the 29th, he was located inside a west end drinking establishment. It is further alleged that the accused failed to notify his change of address as per the release order. Mr. Collins has been charged with 4 counts of breach of a release order and one count of breach of probation for failing to keep the peace and be good.

Motor Collision

Last evening just after 6 pm City Police attended at the intersection of Lake Street and Trunk Road for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A car operated by 24-year old Wasud Mushfique of Toronto was traveling northbound on Lake Street. It is alleged that a car operated by 34-year old Derek McCoy of 140 Frontenac Street was traveling southbound on Lake Street and turned left onto Trunk Road, cutting in front of the Mushfique vehicle. The 2 vehicles collided. The damage to both vehicles is described as severe. None of the passengers in the Mushfique vehicle received any injuries. 29-year old Jennette Niganobe, a passenger in the McCoy vehicle, was taken by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Officers noted that Mr. McCoy was under the influence of alcohol. Mr. McCoy has been charged with one count of consume over the legal limit, one count of impaired driving and one count of breach of probation. He will appear in court on December 5th. He has also been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of left turn-fail to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision.

Female Driving under the Influence of Alcohol

23-year old Theresa Agawa of 48 Cunningham Road was arrested on October 30th and charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of consume over the legal limit, one count of fail to stop for police, one count of fail to provide a breath or blood sample, one count of assault and one count of mischief under $5,000. It is alleged that on the 30th of October just before 3:40 am the accused attended at a residence in the 100 block of Bloor Street West and got into an argument with a female known to the accused. It is alleged that the accused punched the victim in the face, and then threw a stereo speaker out the victim’s window. It is alleged that as the accused was driving away from the residence she reversed the vehicle she was driving into the house. The house did not receive any damage. Police were contacted as the accused left the scene. Officers attempted to stop the accused in the McNabb Street Hill area with flashing lights and sirens. A short distance later the accused did pull over in the area of the YMCA. The accused was noted to be under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested. She will appear in court on Dec 5th.

Youth Charged with Resisting Arrest

A 17-year old youth was arrested on the 30th of October just before 2 am. City Police attended in the 100 block of Great Northern Road after calls came in regarding a person lying on the roadway. When officers arrived they found the accused fighting with persons trying to remove the youth from the street. When officers went to arrest the youth, the youth continued to fight with officers by kicking them, punching them and head butting them. The youth was taken into custody and charged with one count of cause a disturbance by being drunk, one count of resist arrest and one count of breach of probation. The youth will appear in court on December 6th.


Threatening to Cause Death

41-year old Donat Cyr of 68 August Street, Rankin was arrested on the 29th of October and charged with 2 counts of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged that the accused attended at the Mac’s Mart at 185 Gore Street and threatened to staff members after they had asked him to leave the store. It is alleged that the accused was not to be in the store under the Trespass to Property Act. The accused was located a short distance away and was arrested. He will appear in court on December 5th.

Break and Enter


City Police received 5 break and enter reports over the weekend:

1) On the 30th of October a homeowner in the 400 block of Franklin Street reported that someone had tried to enter the residence between 6 pm and 10 pm. Entry was not gained.

2) Between 4:30 pm on the 29th of October and 11 am on the 30th of October thieves gained entry into a home in the 100 block of Letcher Street. At the time of the report it is unknown what was taken.

3) Between midnight and 12 noon on October 30th thieves broke into a shed in the 100 block of Moluch Street and made oft with some tools.

4) Between 4:30 pm on the 29th of October and 10 pm on the 30th thieves broke into a shed in the 100 block of Grand Boulevard and stole a welder and some other tools.

5) Sometime between October 27th and October 31st thieves broke into a home in the 100 block of Sunnydale Road and stole an X-box and punched some holes in a wall in the residence.
