Domestic Related Arrests Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 55 year-old male on the 4th of November at his residence and charged him with on count of assault.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 55 year-old male on the 4th of November at his residence and charged him with on count of assault. It is alleged that on the 4th of November the accused assaulted his common law partner at their residence during a verbal argument. No injuries were reported.

Offices with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 28 year-old male on the 5th of November at his residence and charged him with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 4th of November the accused got into a verbal argument with his common law partner and assaulted her while in their vehicle in a local business parking lot.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 30 year-old female on the 6th of November at 10:23 am at her residence and charged her with one count of assault with a weapon. It is alleged that on the 6th of November the accused assaulted her husband, held a butcher knife to him and threatened to stab him.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 38 year-old male on the 6th of November and charged him with one count of breach of a release document. It is alleged that between the 6th of September and the 1st of November the accused called his ex-girlfriend approximately 50-60 times and at the time he was on a court release document not or communicate with her.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 27 year-old male on the 7th of November at 2:25 am at his residence and charged him with one count of assault, three counts of breach of probation and one count of possession of a controlled drug. It is alleged that on the 6th of November at approximately 10:30 pm the accused got into a verbal argument with his ex-girlfriend while at his residence and assaulted her.

At the time of the incident the accused was on probation with conditions that he not harass, molest, annoy or physically interfere with the victim and further, he was to keep the peace and be good behaviour. Officers also discovered that the accused had not notified police of his change of address as directed in the order. At the time of his arrest the accused was found in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 25 year-old male on the 7th of November at 12:29 am at the police station on an outstanding warrant and charged him with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused was wanted for a domestic related incident involving his common law girlfriend that occurred on the 30th of October at her residence. The accused allegedly assaulted her and she received non-life threatening injuries as a result.

Female Arrested on Outstanding Warrant

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 22 year-old Tara Stiber of 702 Wellington Street West on the 6th of November at 11:50 pm at the police station on an outstanding warrant and charged her with one count of fail to appear court. It is alleged that the accused failed to appear court on the 31st of October in relation to a drug charge.

Male Arrested for Public Intoxication and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 18 year-old Nicholas Turmaine of 367 Langdon Road on the 5th of November at 12:25 pm on Princeton Drive and charged him with one count of possession of a prohibited weapon and one count of intoxicated in a public place.

It is alleged that around midnight officers received a call regarding a loud party and disturbance complaint at a residence on Princeton Drive.

At the time officers found the accused in an intoxicated state, refusing to leave the party and causing a disturbance. The accused was uncooperative with the officers and was arrested.

At the time of his arrest, the accused was found in possession of brass knuckles. The accused is to appear in court on the 5th of December.

Break and Enter Reports

• A residence on Joel Court was entered around 5:34 am on Saturday. The homeowner observed the suspect flee from the residence. Male suspect was described as being approximately 5’5, shaved head and wearing a reddish, burgundy couloured jacket. A Sony Play Station was reported stolen.

• A residence on Churchill Boulevard was entered last week. A Laptop was reported stolen.

• An electronics business on Great Northern Road was broken into overnight on the 6th of November. Numerous i-Phones and Black Berry phones were reported stolen.

Theft Reports

• A 2008 Honda CRV car, gold/tan in clour, was stolen from a local health club parking lot on Saturday between 3:30-6:30 pm. It is alleged that the suspect stole al wallet and the keys from the vehicle owner’s locker and then stole the vehicle from the lot.

• A poppy cash box was reported stolen from a local business on John Street.

• Vehicles were entered on Creery Avenue and St. Georges Ave. West. A Yamaha 6 string Acoustic Guitar was reported stolen.

Reminder: Crime Prevention Week 2011 - November 6 to 12 - “Innovation and Technology in Crime Prevention”

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is pleased to announce that they will be celebrating and participating in Crime Prevention Week which runs from November 6 to 12 in Ontario.

This special week reminds us that our local police officers are working to ensure the community has a safer tomorrow.

This year’s theme “Innovation and technology” will enhance our joint efforts to create safer and stronger communities in Ontario by promoting personal and public safety through prevention, preparedness and social development.

During the week, we will be providing additional crime prevention tips to the public in the morning news releases to assist in reducing their chances of becoming victims of crimes.

In addition, school liaison officers will be working with schools, supporting agencies, committees and the community providing safety and crime prevention lectures with regards to internet safety and other various subjects.

“Take I.S.S.U.E. (Internet Safety and Sensible Use of Electronics)”

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police are inviting parents to take “I.S.S.U.E.” with them on November 9, 10 and 14.

“Take I.S.S.U.E. (Internet Safety and Sensible Use of Electronics)” is a community based police initiative promoting responsible and safe internet/electronic device use and cyber social interaction.

The focus of this program is to provide awareness for parents, youths and educational providers in order to highlight the various dangers associated with our rapidly developing technology.

In doing they are striving to prevent the victimization of our youth and inspire healthy, responsible and safe cyber habits.
