The following five persons will be appearing in bail court this morning:

1) Two males were arrested by city police on Blucher Street on the 24th of November around 11:05 pm in connection to several parking meters being smashed in the Gore Street, Blucher Street and Albert Street East area that occurred that evening between the hours of 7:30 pm and 11:00 pm. It is alleged that the two males wearing dark clothing smashed approximately 11 parking meters with a hammer and stole an undisclosed amount of change. It is further alleged that a 35 year-old male witness was punched in the face by one of the male youths when he attempted to stop him from breaking one of the meters on Gore Street. There were no injuries reported to the victim.
The 16 year-old male youth was arrested and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000.00 and one count of assault.
The 19 year-old male, Derek Bob of #2-151 Gore Street was arrested and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000.00, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of breach of probation. At the time of the incident the accused was probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

2) A 14 year-old youth was arrested on the 23rd of November at 12:10 pm at the city police station and charged with one count of assault, one count of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. It is alleged that on the 21st of November in the early morning hours the accused assaulted a fellow student at a local high school by punching him several times. The accused also threatened to kill the victim. No injuries were reported. At the time of the incident the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

3) A 23 year-old male was arrested on the 24th of November at 3:30 pm at an east-end residence and charged with one count of assault and one count of mischief under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 24th of November around noon the accused attended at the east end residence of his ex-girlfriend, got into a verbal argument with her and assaulted her by kicking her and slapping her. It is further alleged that the accused punched a hole in a wall at the residence. The victim received non-life threatening injuries.

4) A 23 year-old male was arrested on the 25th of November at 7:35 pm at a centrally located residence and charged with two counts of assault and one count of mischief under $5,000.00. It is alleged that one the 2nd of November the accused attended at his ex-girlfriend’s residence, got into a verbal argument with her and backhanded her across the face and pushed her. It is further alleged that the accused attended back at her residence on the 25th of November and pushed her onto a couch and attempted to choke her. The accused ripped the phone cord from the wall and broke the victim’s cell phone and window blinds during the domestic incident. The victim received non-life threatening injuries.

Assault Charges

37 year-old Dylan Stone of 90 Echo Lake Road in Echo Bay was arrested on the 23rd of November at 5:15 pm at a west-end residence and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 23rd of November around 11:40 am at a downtown business office, the accused assaulted a 27 year-old male known to him by punching him in the head. The victim received non-life threatening injuries. The accused is to appear in court on the 7th of January 2008.

Youth Charged with Attempted Theft & Breach

A 13 year-old male youth was arrested on the 24th of November on Chartwell Drive and charged with one count of attempt theft and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. It is alleged that the youth entered vehicle that was parked in the apartment complex on Chartwell Drive and attempted to steal a cell phone. The youth was apprehended by a witness and held for police. The youth is to appear in court on the 8th of January 2008.

Motor Vehicle Collision

City police, Fire and Ambulance Services were called to a motor vehicle accident on the 24th of November just before 1 pm that resulted in two persons being sent to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. It is alleged that a Ford F150 pick up was traveling northbound on Elgin Street when it failed to stop for the red light at Albert Street East and struck a 2004 KIA vehicle that was eastbound on Albert Street East. As a result of the collision, the KIA veered off the roadway, struck a light standard and rolled onto its side. The two persons inside the KIA, the 70 year-old male driver and his 68 year-old female passenger were the two persons injured. The driver of the Ford pick up, 30 year-old Ronald Mancuso of 1187 Allen’s Side Road was charged with one count of red light – fail to stop under the Highway Traffic Act. Both vehicles were severely damaged.

The following break and enters wee reported over the weekend:

1) An apartment on Albert Street West was entered sometime overnight on the 24th of November. It is not known if anything was taken at this time.

2) There was an attempt break and enter reported to a residence on Beverley Street on the 25th of November at around 7:06 pm. A witness reported seeing a male attempting to break in through a window. Police were contacted – no entry was gained. The male fled prior to police arrival and was described as having dark long hair, wearing black pants and a leather vest.

The following mischief reports were taken over the weekend:

1) A gate and shed were reported damaged on the 23rd of November on Copernicus Drive.

2) Two bags of garbage were dumped on the property of a residence on Wellington Street West.

3) A vehicle parked in the Connaught Avenue apartment complex was damaged on the 24th of November.

4) A window was broken at the Apostolic Church on Goulais Avenue around 12:18 am on the 25th of November.

5) A living room window of a residence on St. George’s Avenue East was smashed on the 25th of November at around 2:40 am.
