Bail Court 1) 34 year old James Lloyd Laplante of 18 Maple St. will appear this morning charged with consume over and drive while disqualified. The accused was stopped while operating a 1994 Dodge Dakota on the 27th of March 2009.

1) 34 year old James Lloyd Laplante of 18 Maple St. will appear this morning charged with consume over and drive while disqualified. The accused was stopped while operating a 1994 Dodge Dakota on the 27th of March 2009. The accused was tested with a road side screening device and failed that test and was taken into custody and transported to the station for breathalyzer testing.

2) 35 year old Michael Anthony Greganti of 1014 Wallace Terrace and 27 year old Wesley Raymond Hallam
Of 63 Foothill Road will appear in bail court this morning both charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. It is alleged that on the 26th of March 2009 they assaulted a 34 year old male and during this assault struck the victim in the face with a blunt object causing serious injuries.

3) A 35 year old male will appear in bail court this morning after a domestic related occurrence. It is alleged that the male assaulted his female partner, threatened her with death, committed a sexual assault with a weapon and is further charged with “Overcome resistance by choking”. This investigation is ongoing.

Robbery

Sault Ste. Marie Police is investigating an armed robbery that occurred this morning at approx. 01:23 am. A male entered the Mac’s Convenience Store on Dacey Rd. wearing a balaclava. He was further described as approx. 6’ tall, heavy set, middle aged wearing a red winter jacket and is said to have fled towards Chambers Ave. The suspect was armed with a needle (syringe). This investigation is ongoing.

Update – Shooting on Korah Road and serious Motor Vehicle Collision on Queen Street West

On the 28th of March 2009 the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received a complaint from adult female who was complaining that an ex-partner communicating and potentially harassing her contrary to court ordered conditions. Police believe that the suspect in this domestic related complaint is the person responsible for the shooting at Korah Road. This person is also the same person who is deceased in the motor vehicle collision that accorded a short time later on Queen St. W.

Shortly after the complaint was made by the female, a 35 year old resident of Sault Ste. Marie attended the residence of the complainant in the 400 block of Korah Road. The ex-boyfriend was armed with a shotgun. He unsuccessfully attempted to gain entry to residence and fired one round from a shotgun into the back door of the residence. It is believed he was firing at a 38 year old male party that was in the residence at the time but missed on the first shot. The victim and the deceased became embroiled in a struggle outside the residence for the shotgun that continued onto the front lawn of the residence. During this struggle the male party was shot in the right leg above the knee by the ex-boyfriend.

The ex-boyfriend immediately fled the scene of the shooting in his pick up truck. The shotgun as left behind on the sidewalk next to the shooting victim. As well an assortment of shotgun shells were located at the rear door of the residence.

About eight minutes after the call for the shooting, police received a call for a serious motor vehicle accident in front of Studio 10 on Queen Street West. Police determined that the ex-boyfriend had driven his pick up truck at a very high rate of speed into the west corner of Studio 10. Civilians assisted in removing the ex-boyfriend from his vehicle. There are unconfirmed reports that the deceased was conscious and speaking at that time and asked for help. He was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The exact cause of death of the deceased will be determined during a post mortem that is to take place in the next couple of day.

Police are not releasing the identities of any of the persons involved in the matter as police believe that this is a domestic related occurrence.

The ex-girlfriend was not injured in this incident. The victim received very serious but non-life threatening leg injuries and is still in hospital.
