Motor Vehicle Collision Yesterday afternoon around 4:40 pm City Police attended at the Great Northern Road near Sixth Line for a motor vehicle collision with injuries.

Yesterday afternoon around 4:40 pm City Police attended at the Great Northern Road near Sixth Line for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A van operated by 34-year-old Roch Lalonde of 388-532 Montreal Road, Ottawa was traveling northbound on Great Northern Road. A southbound car operated by 21-year old Amy Madsen of 92C Old Mill Road was traveling southbound on Great Northern Road. It is alleged that the Lalonde van crossed the centre lane, which caused the Madsen vehicle to swerve to the west ditch to avoid the van. The van collided with the rear driver’s side of the car. Ms. Madsen was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles received severe damage. Mr. Lalonde displayed signs of impairment and was arrested. He has been charged criminally with one count of fail to provide a breath sample and one count of impaired driving causing bodily harm. He will appear in bail court this morning.

Drug Charges Laid

Saturday evening officers attended at 41 Princess Crescent apartment #4 during the course of an investigation. Upon speaking to the persons in the residence officers learned that two of the accused were on a number of release conditions that they were violating, such as being with each other and failing to notify change of address. When officers searched the accused persons they located 5 grams of cocaine on one male accused and 3 grams of marihuana and 2 grams of cannabis resin on the other male accused. 42-year old Ronald Rennison of 92 Copernicus Avenue has been charge with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance in relation to the cocaine, 4 counts of breach of release order and two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance in relation to the other narcotics. 48-year old Glen Stevens of 21 Trelawne Avenue has been charged with 3 counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance and 4 counts of breach of a release order. Both males will appear in bail court this morning. 23-year old Sarah Mergaert of 4-41 Princess Crescent has been charged with 3 counts of possession of a control drug or substance and will appear in court on August 8th. The street value of the drugs is approximately $600.

Youth Breaks into Vacant Home

Around 10 pm on Saturday night City Police arrested 2 14-year old youths who broke into a vacant home in the 600 block of Portage Lane. Neighbours in the area heard a noise, attended at the house and held the youths until officers arrived. Both youths have been charged with one count of unlawfully in a dwelling house and will both appear in court on August 9th. One of the youths faces an additional charge of breach of probation.

Impaired Drivers Charged

1)63-year old Edward Kaplanis of 127 Meadow Park Crescent was arrested just after 10 pm on Friday after City Police received a complaint of an erratic driver traveling southbound on Great Northern Road. The car the accused was driving was stopped on Second Line East near the Police Station and the driver showed obvious signs of impairment. The accused has been charged with one count of consume over the legal limit and one count of impaired driving. He will appear in court on August 8th.


2)On Saturday morning just after 2 am 44-year old David Carter of 1A-690 Pine Street was stopped by the R.I.D.E. unit on Wellington Street East near East Street. The accused showed signs of impairment and was arrested. The accused has been charged with one count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on August 8th.

Male Breaks into Ex-wifes Home

A 38-year old male was arrested on Saturday just before noon hour. It is alleged that the accused broke into his ex-wife’s west end home and stole some alcohol and a small amount of money. At the time of the offence the male was on conditions to keep the peace and be good. The male has been charged with one count of break and enter and commit an offence and one count of breach of probation. The male will appear in court on August 8th.

Male Assaults Police Officer

24-year old Landon Lenius of 292 Sussex Avenue will appear in court on August 8th. On Saturday morning just before 3 am City Police were in the downtown area at a call regarding a noisy party. It is alleged that the accused threw a cell phone at one of the officers, striking them in the chest area. The accused was arrested and has been charged with one count of assault a police officer and one count of breach of probation. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with terms to keep the peace and be good. Mr. Lenuis will appear in court on August 8th.

Between Friday and Sunday City Police received 8 break and enter calls:


1) During the daytime hours of June 24th thieves attempted to break into a garage in the 100 block of Third Line East.

2) On the 24th of June in the afternoon hours a homeowner in the 100 block of Bellevue Avenue reported that sometime between June 15th and June 24th their garage was entered and a Craftsman Hammer Drill was stolen.

3) On the 25th of June at 7 am City Police attended at Sir James Dunn High School in regards to a possible break and enter. Someone had thrown rocks through a window but it did not appear that entry had been gained.

4) On the 25th of June between 9 pm and 11 pm thieves entered a home in the 100 block of Terry Fox Place. It is unknown at this time if anything was taken.

5) Sometime between 3 pm on the 25th of June and 1:30 am on the 26th of June thieves entered a home in the 100 block of James Street and stole a stereo.

6) On the 26th of June City Police attended at Prince Charles School on Northern Avenue just after 4 am for a break and enter. Thieves made off with 4 computer towers.

7) Sometime during the day time hours of June 26th thieves attempted to break into the Old Prince of Wales School without success.

8) A home in the 500 block of Lake Street was entered during the evening hours last night. It is unknown if anything was taken.
