Sault Ste Marie Police Service is investigating a Break and Enter that took place in the 100 block of Chestnut St. on Sunday June 19th. In the incident the victim reports that she heard someone knocking on her front door at approx. 1:45 AM. When she went to answer the knock the door was forced open and three males entered her residence. The victim reports that she tried to flee but was grabbed and held down by two of the men. The men demanded money and drugs from her. As the victim was held down the third male ran upstairs to look for money. A neighbour hearing the noise attended and frightened the suspects off. The only description of the suspects is that they were Native Canadian and that the victim may know one of the males. The suspects were last seen in the area of Chestnut St. Anyone having any information about this incident is asked to call the Sault Ste Marie Police Detective Unit or Crimestoppers.

City Police are investigating three other break and enters that took place in the past 48 hours. The first Break-in was reported to a garage in the 200 block of Albert St.W. where culprits stole a quantity of tools. The second was to a residence in the 500 block of Second Line W. In this incident culprits forced a rear door and stole the following items: jewelry, electronic equipment, a laptop computer, and some firearms.

On Saturday June 20th at approx. 12:40 AM City Police attended the Doctor’s building located at 170 East St. in regards to an alarm. Upon arrival officers noticed that one of the windows was broken. A search of the building resulted in the arrest of a 20-year-old male. Charged with Break and Enter is Jarrett Jocko of 166 Gore St. Apt. 2. He will be appearing in Court on Monday July 25th at 9:00 AM.

Arson

The City Police and Fire Department are investigating a fire that took place at approx. 5:30 AM on Sunday morning. The suspicious fire, to a barn in the 200 block of Fourth Line E., is being treated as Arson. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call: Sault Ste Marie Police Detective Unit or Crimestoppers.

Male Charged with Robbery

City Police arrested a 36-year-old male, on Sunday June 19th, and charged him with Robbery. In the incident it is alleged that the accused grabbed the victim, a person known to him, by the throat and demanded money and cigarettes from her. The incident took place in the 100 block of East St. After receiving a small amount of money the accused fled the scene. Police located the suspect a short time later and arrested him. He will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00 AM.

Motor Vehicle Collision

On Sunday June 19th at approx. 12:24 AM City Police were called to attend a motor vehicle collision on Melrose Ave. Upon arrival officers observed a vehicle in the ditch. Witnesses gave officers a description of the suspect and a short time later officers located the accused. Charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Over 80 mgs is 30-year-old Melissa Assiginack, of 130 Trelawne Ave. At the time of the incident there were five children in the vehicle. She will be appearing in Court at 9:00 AM on July 25th.

Kitchen Fire

On June 18th at approx. 6:15 PM City Police and the City Fire Departments were dispatched to a house fire in the 100 block of Albion St. The resident of the home, had left a pot of oil on the stove while he was barbecuing in the backyard. The oil caught fire and it spread to the kitchen. A passerby and a neighbour seeing the smoke attended to offer assistance. They attempted to put out the fire and search the residence for any tenants. While doing this they both suffered smoke inhalation and one male suffered some minor burns. Both were taken to hospital and treated. The fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen.
