City Police are currently investigating an accident involving a gold 2002 four- door Chevrolet Cavalier and a Sault Ste Marie Fire Service’s truck. The accident occurred on Friday the 29th of May at approximately 3:10 pm at the intersection of Bay Street and Pim Street in front of the Bush Plane Museum. There were no injuries and minor damage reported.

Motorist and Cyclists Reminder:

Also the Sault Ste Marie Police Service like to remind motorists once again to be cautious and diligent when travelling and sharing the roadway with cyclists. Keep in mind that bicycles are defined as vehciles under the Highway Traffic Act, so treat them as you would any other vehicle on the road. Cyclists generally ride in the right-most through-lane about one metre from the curb or parked cars. Cyclists can ride on either the paved road, or on paved or unpaved shoulders and are entitled to ride in the centre of a lane. When passing a cyclist, leave a safe distance between your car and the bicycle and if you plan on making a right turn ahead, be sure to anticipate the upcoming cyclist at all intersections. Drivers must be extra cautious in residential areas, where children may be riding on sidewalks and crossing streets.

Bicyclist, remember to wear an approved helmet.

Two Males Charged after Assault With a Weapon Sends Victim to Hospital:

On the 29th of May at 7:42 pm City Police attended at a residence on Pardee Avenue regarding an assault complaint. On arrival, they discovered that ambulance attendants were on scene treating the victim for his injuries. It is alleged that the 50 year-old male victim was attacked by two males known to him after they attended at his residence around 7:20 pm and got into a verbal argument with him. Once outside the residence, the victim was struck by one of the males numerous times with a cane and when he was down on the ground, the second male punched him several times in the head area with brass knuckles. The male assailants fled prior to police arrival but were located at approximately 9 pm at their residence and arrested. The victim was sent to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
18 year-old Raymond Floyd of 292 Kingsford Road was charged with one count of assault with a weapon and 20 year-old Devon Floyd, also of 292 Kingsford Road was charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon. They are both to appear in court on the 6th of July.

Four Persons Arrested after Drug Warrant Executed at Residence on Ransome Drive:

On the 30th of May 2009 at approximately 12:00 am members of the Sault Ste. Marie Street Team, Emergency Services Unit and the Canine unit executed a search warrant at 74 Ransome Drive. During the course of the search, officers located cannabis hashish, cannabis marijuana, cannabis resin, a scale, packaging materials and oxycodone. The estimated street value of the seizure was $8,050.00.
As a result, 46 year-old John Reed and Betty-Jo Reed 74 Ransome Drive were each charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance. Two other females at the residence at the time of the search, 42 year-old Susan Burns of 73 Ransome Drive and 38 year-old Jennifer Fitton of 744 Cooper Street were also charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance after being found in possession of a small amount of cannabis. All the accused persons are to appear in court on the 6th of July.

Male Charged During RIDE Program:

24 year-old Tyler Forbes of 45 Third Line East has been charged with one count of consume over the legal limit after being checked on the 31st of May at 2:40 am on Pine Street during the RIDE Program. It is alleged that the accused failed the Roadside Breathalyzer, was arrested and transported to station. He is to appear in court on the 6th of July.

Male Charged with Cocaine Possession:

53 year-old Eric Laitinen of #4-364 Wellington Street East was arrested on the 30th of May at 5:15 am on Dacey Road and charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of intoxicated in a public place. On the 30th of May around 5:15 am City police were called to the parking lot area of an apartment complex in the 300 block of Dacey Road by 7500 Taxi regarding an intoxicated male customer that was refusing to pay his fare. It is alleged that when officers arrived they found the accused to be intoxicated and refused to identify himself. When arrested the accused was found in possession of a small amount of cocaine. The fair was paid and the accused was transported to station. He is to appear in court on the 6th of July.

Domestic Related Offence:

A 38 year-old male was arrested on the 29th of May at 2:31 pm at his residence and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 29th of May around 8:30 am accused assaulted his ex-girlfriend at his residence by pushing her and punching her in the face. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result. He was also charged with two counts breach of a release document, one count of mischief in relation to outstanding warrants. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Female Shoplifter Charged:

41 year-old Linda Martineau of 503 Second Line West (main floor) was charged with one count of theft under and possession of property under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 30th of May at approximately 2:4 0 pm the accused attended at Joe No Frills on Korah Road and stole two packages of ground beef. She was apprehended by staff and held for police. She is to appear in court on the 29th of June.

Property Crimes:

Break and Enters:


• A shed on Allen’s Side Road was broken into on the 30th of May.
• An attempt break and enter was reported to a residence in the 100 block of Brien Avenue.

Mischief Reports:

• Two tires were punctured on a vehicle parked at the A&P on the 31st of May.
• Windows of a Back Hoe on Trunk Road were smashed on the 31st of May.
• A vehicle parked on Breton Road was damaged on the 31st of May when unknown person/s jumped on it and struck with a baseball bat.

Thefts:

• A vehicle on Birchwood Drive was entered sometime overnight on the 31st of May and a Samsung digital camera and some cash were reported stolen.
• A wallet was reported stolen at the Checkered Flag & Hard Times Bar on the Saturday night.
• A Supercycle Mountain Bike was reported stolen from Welcome Avenue on the 31st of May.
