Stabbing On Friday July 27th the Sault Ste Marie Police Service received a call to a residence on Hugill St regarding a possible stabbing. At approx.10:30 pm a female attending a house party on Hugill St.
Stabbing

On Friday July 27th the Sault Ste Marie Police Service received a call to a residence on Hugill St regarding a possible stabbing. At approx.10:30 pm a female attending a house party on Hugill St. was struck with a brick that was thrown from a field at the rear of Sir James Dunn High School. Several party guests then went over to Sir James Dunn High School to speak to a group of between 10-20 youths that were at the school. At this time an argument took place and a 35-year-old male was stabbed twice in the back. The group of youths then fled the area. The victim of the assault was taken to Sault Area Hospital for medical treatment. The suspects in this incident are described as:

1. Male, Native-Canadian, late teens to early 20’s, 5’7” - 5’10’, slim build, 150 lbs, wearing jeans and a
dark shirt, he had dark hair over the ears.

2. Male, late teens to early 20’s, 5’6" -5'8", heavy set, 240lbs, wearing baggy jeans.

It is believed that the heavy set male had a knife and was threatening to use it but that the slimmer male did the stabbing. The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is still investigating this incident and is seeking the public’s assistance in locating witnesses. Impaired Driver's

1) On Friday July 27th at approx. 9:50 pm the Sault Ste Marie Police Service was called to investigate a motor vehicle collision on Pim St. Upon speaking to both involved persons the officers noticed that one driver, Henry Johnson, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result Henry Johnson, age 39, of 28 Stevens St. is charged with one count of impaired riving and one count of drive over 80 mgs. He will be appearing in court on Sept. 10th. There were no injuries as a result of the motor vehicle collision.

2) On Saturday July 28th at approx. 3:20 am city police officers stopped a vehicle on Second Line W. that was observed driving erratically. Upon speaking to the driver the officers formed the opinion that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. As a result Dwayne Sayers, age 41, of 86 Chippewa St. was arrested for impaired driving. It is alleged that the accused was then requested to provide a breath sample which he refused. Mr. Sayers is charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of failure to provide breath sample. He will be appearing in court on Sept. 10th.

Two Youth's Charged after Assault

On Friday July 27th at approx. 11:00 pm the Sault Ste Marie Police Service was called to attend the area of Gore St and Albert St. regarding an assault. Upon arrival the officers spoke to a 39-year-old male who advised he was assaulted by two youths. A short time later the officers located and arrested two 16-year-old boys. It is alleged that the accused youths used a skateboard and a golf club to assault the victim. The victim suffered injuries to the face and head and was taken to the hospital for treatment. One accused is charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of breach of probation. The second accused is charged with one count of aggravated assault and two counts of breach of probation. Both accused will be appearing in bail court today. City police are still investigating this incident.

Possession

At approx. 2:45 am Saturday July 28th city police officers arrested a 52-year-old male on Great Northern Rd. for possession of a controlled substance. It is alleged that the accused had a quantity of marihuana on his person. It is further alleged that while being arrested the accused resisted arrest. Gianfranco Fronzi, age 52, of 4 Labelle St. is charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of resist arrest. Mr. Fronzi will be appearing in count on Sept. 10th.

Break & Enter

On Sunday July 29th at approx. 8:45 pm city police received a complaint of a break and enter to an apartment building at 207 Wellington St.E. Upon arrival officers were informed by the tenants that unknown person(s) had entered their premises. The complainants also provided the officers with a list of items stolen. Upon examining the point of entry the officers noticed a large amount of blood. At approx. 11:15 pm officers from the Sault Ste Marie Police Service attended at the General Hospital and located a male person with lacerations to his hand. At this time officers arrested 22 year-old Jeffrey Godson-Roy, of 207 Wellington St. E. Apt #2. Mr. Godson-Roy is charged with one count of break and enter. He will be appearing in bail court today.

Aggravated Assault

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is investigating an aggravated assault complaint that occurred behind M.J.s Market on Gore St. on Sunday July 29th at approx. 3:45 am. It is believed that four persons assaulted a 27-year-old-male with a golf club. The victim suffered facial and head injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. At this time the Sault Ste Marie Police Investigative Service seeking the public’s assistance in locating witnesses or anyone that may have any information on this assault. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Sault Ste Marie Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service received two break and enter reports over the weekend.

A residence in the 100 block of Forest Ave. was entered. Thieves stole a quantity of clothing.
Ambassador Fries, located at 1275 Great Northern Rd. was the victim of two attempted break-ins. Would be thieves caused damage to the doors on both Friday and Saturday nights but did not gain entry.

Arson

The city fire department and the Sault Ste Marie Police Service are investigating an arson report that occurred to a residence in the 200 block of Pim St. In the incident a carpet was set on fire. Minor damage was reported.
