Assault Charged On Sunday July 15th at approx. 2:45 am city police arrested 28-year-old Alex McKenna and charged him with one count of assault. It is alleged that on July 8th the accused punched a male known to him in the face.

On Sunday July 15th at approx. 2:45 am city police arrested 28-year-old Alex McKenna and charged him with one count of assault. It is alleged that on July 8th the accused punched a male known to him in the face. The victim did not require medical attention. The accused Alex McKenna, age 28 of 538 North St. will be appearing in court on Aug 20th at 9:00 am.

Impaired Drivers

1) On Friday July 13th at approx. 6:30 pm city police arrested 43-year-old Dean Elgin Harten, of 19 MacIntyre Rd. It is alleged that Mr. Harten was operating a motor vehicle on Great Northern Rd. when it struck a curb and guardrail. The accused male’s vehicle came to a stop and the accused then attempted to flee the scene on foot but was stopped and held by several witnesses. The accused will be appearing in court on Aug 20th on one count of impaired driving and one count of drive over 80 mgs. The city police would like to thank the citizens that assisted in arresting this male. Thank you.

2) On Saturday July 14th at approx.4:30 am city police officers observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner on Trunk Rd. As a result the vehicle was stopped and the driver was observed to be under the influence o f alcohol. Charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of drive over 80mgs is 31-year-old Kristen Roach, of 12 Nebenaigoching St. She will be appearing in court on Aug 20th at 9:00 am.

RIDE Checks

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service operated a R.I.D.E. program this weekend. The following statistics were obtained:
510 vehicles were checked.
14 Roadside tests were performed
2- 12 hour suspensions were issued
2 persons were arrested for drive over 80mgs
6 charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act

The two persons charged as a result of the R.I.D.E. program are:

1. Andrew Williamson, age 45, of 352 MacDonald Ave. It is alleged that Mr. Williamson was operating his vehicle on Bay St. on the 13th of July at approx. 11:20 pm when he was stopped by the R.I.D.E. program and registered a fail on the roadside test. He will be appearing in court on Aug 20th at 9:00 am

2. Dylan Garnet Pine, age 19, of 137 Park Dr, Garden River. It is alleged that on July 14th at approx. 2:45 am the accused failed to stop for a R.I.D.E. spot check on Wellington St.E. His vehicle was subsequently stopped and when Mr. Pine took the roadside test he registered a fail and was arrested and charged with one count of drive over 80 mgs. He will be appearing in court on Aug 20th at 9:00 am.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service report three break and enters this weekend.

On Saturday July 14th at approx. 11:40 pm a break in was reported to the Northland Animal Hospital located at 695 Trunk Rd. It is unknown what was taken.
Boston’s Boat Works located at 257 Trunk Rd was broken into on Sunday July 15th at approx. 12:30 am. One male person was seen fleeing from the area. The suspect is described a young male, white, 5’7” tall, wearing a dark hooded sweater and dark pants. Anyone with information on this or any other crime is asked to contact the Sault Ste Marie Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-899-222-TIPS.
A cottage located at the north end of Old Goulais Bay Rd. was entered and a variety of tools was taken.
