Five persons to appear in bail court: 1) On Friday July 11th at approx. 11:40 am city police arrested a 25-year-old male and charged him with one count of assault.
Five persons to appear in bail court:

1) On Friday July 11th at approx. 11:40 am city police arrested a 25-year-old male and charged him with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused male attended at his ex-common wife’s east end address and while there he assaulted her by shoving her. The victim did not require medical attention.

2) At approx. 1:35 pm on July 11th city police arrested a 39-year-old male at his east end address and charged him with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of threatening death. It is alleged that on Friday July 11th the accused swung a hockey stick at his wife. The accused did not strike the victim with the stick but did strike the bed where she was laying. It is further alleged that the accused threatened to kill her while he was swinging the stick.

3) A 27-year-old male was arrested on Saturday July 12th and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the evening of Friday July 11th the accused assaulted his wife by grabbing her by the wrists and forcing her to the ground. The victim suffered minor injuries but did not require medical attention. The incident occurred in the north end of town.

4) A 31-year-old male was arrested on Sunday July13th and charged with two count of breach of a recognizance. It is alleged that on Saturday July 12th the accused attempted to communicate with a female person that he was prohibited from communicating with on two occasions. At the time of these offences the accused was on a recognizance court release with a condition that he not communicate with the victim in this incident.

5) A 26-year-old male was arrested on Saturday July 12th at approx. 10:45 pm and charged with one count of assault, one count of break and enter, one count of mischief, one count of forcible confinement and one count of criminal harassment. It is alleged that between June 19th and July 12th 2008, the accused criminally harassed, assaulted and damaged property belonging to his ex-common-law partner. It is further alleged that on Friday July 11th the accused broke into the victim’s residence damaged property in the residence and prevented the victim from leaving.

Two Females arrested for mischief:

At approx. 2:25 am on Sunday July 13th city police were called to attend at 17 Old Wallace Terr regarding a noise complaint. It is alleged that when officers arrived they heard loud noises coming from the residence. The officers also observed several young persons on the roof, of the premises making noises and disturbing neighbours.
As a result 18-year-old Nicole Reid, of 17 Old Wallace Terr., Upper apt. and
Brittany Desmeules, age 18 of 17 Old Wallace Terr.Upper apt. were both arrested and charged with one count of mischief- interfering with the lawful enjoyment of property. Brittany Desmeules was also charged with two counts of breach of probation. The accused had being previously severed with a noise by-law citation.
Both accused will be appearing in court on Aug 18th at 9:00 am.

Man arrested for drive over 80mgs:

On Sunday July 13th at approx. 12:30 am city police were called to Canada Customs regarding a possible impaired driver. Upon arrival officers were informed by Canada Customs officers that the accused had failed a roadside screening test. As a result Keith Parr, age 24, of 76 Wellington St. W. was arrested transported to the police station and given breathalyzer tests. The accused failed the tests and was charged with one count of drive over 80 mgs. He will be appearing in court on Aug 18th .at 9:00 am.


Man arrested for being unlawfully in a dwelling:

On Saturday July 12th at approx. 7:45 am city police arrested a man 45-year-old male and charged him with being unlawfully in a dwelling. It is alleged that the accused was discovered in an east end residence by the home owners. Police were called and arrested the accused. Charged is James Merrimen, age 45, of 148 South Market St. He will be appearing in court on Aug 18th at 9:00 am.

Female arrested for obstruct police, theft and possession charges:

On Thursday July 10th at approx. 1:55 pm police were called to the Zellers Store at 293 Bay St. regarding a female shoplifter. Upon arrival officers were informed that a female had stolen a quantity of clothing items. At that time the officers arrested the accused and charged her with one count of theft under $ 5,000.00 and possession of property obtained by crime. The accused identified herself to the officers as: Darlene Assiginack.
On Friday July 11th officers discovered the true identity of the accused and attended at her home address and arrested her. Charged with one count of theft under $ 5,000.00, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of obstruct police is 56-year-old Carolen Lacko of 628 Albert St.W. She will be appearing in court on Aug 18th at 9:00 am.

Break and enters:

City police received five reports of break-ins and one attempted entry. Break-ins were reported to the following locations:
1. 400 block of Charles St. - unknown what was taken.
2. 100 block of Knox Ave- unknown what was taken.
3. 100 block of Oakwood Dr. - unknown what was taken.
4. A residence in the 400 block of John St. - Jewellery and coin collections were stolen.
5. H & S Outdoor Equipment, located at 97 White Oak Dr. was entered. A yellow 1990 Suzuki RM 125 motorcycle was taken.
6. An attempted break and enter was reported to a residence in the 100 block of Kohler St.

Mischief:

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service received seven reports of mischief over the weekend.

1. A residence in the 100 block of Heath Rd. was egged on July 10th -11th. It is the second occurrence in as many nights.
2. Three youth were seen knocking down mail boxes on Parkewood Dr. at approx. 1:50 am on Saturday morning. The youths were described as being 15-16 years of age and may have been leaving a party on Parkewood Dr. They were last seen walking towards the airport.
3. Construction equipment was damaged on Maki Rd. Incident occurred between July 11th -12th.
4. Four youths were seen damaging solar lights on Shafer Ave. late Saturday night. Two males and two females were seen breaking the lights in the middle of the road.
5. A lawn tractor was damaged in the 100 block of Pine St.
6. A garage door was damaged in the 100 block of Farwell Terr.
7. Five tires on two trailers were slashed in the 100 block of Churchill Ave.

Thefts:

A purse was stolen from an office in the 100 block of Manitou Dr.
An 18’ above ground swimming pool was stolen in the 300 block of John St.
A bicycle was reported stolen from the 500 block of Goulais Ave.
A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Wayne Crt was entered and a car radio was stolen.
A second vehicle parked in the 100 block of Wayne Crt was entered and a pair of sunglasses and a Sirius satellite radio was stolen.
