Domestic Related Arrest: Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 22 year-old male on the 7 th of January at 12:24 am and charged him with three counts of assault, one count of mischief and two counts of breach of probation.

Domestic Related Arrest:  

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 22 year-old male on the 7th of January at 12:24 am and charged him with three counts of assault, one count of mischief and two counts of breach of probation. 

It is alleged that on the 7th of January the accused assaulted his girlfriend while at a gathering at an east end residence.  When two persons attempted to intervene, he assaulted them as well and smashed a door window at the home.  The victims received minor injuries as results of the assaults. 

At the time of the incident the accused was under the influence of alcohol and was on probation with conditions that he not consume any alcohol and he was also to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.  The accused is to appear in bail court this morning. 

Three Arrested During Vehicle Stop:

On the 6th of January at approximately 1:00 pm, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team and Patrol Services conducted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle on Bennett Boulevard.  During the course of the traffic stop it was discovered that the driver of the vehicle, Damien Sharpe and one of his female passengers, Ariel Ramkay, were on a recognizance order with conditions not to associate or communicate with each other.

In addition, Sharpe was bound by the condition of a recognizance order to remain in his residence unless in the company of his surety, and not to possess a cellular telephone. As a result, 25 year-old Damien Sharpe of 1288 Government Road, Echo Bay, was charged with three counts of breach of recognizance, and 21 year-old Ariel Ramkay of #306-115 Cambridge Place was charged with one count of breach of recognizance. 

A third occupant, 38 year-old Leon Legault of 435 First Avenue was found in possession of approximately 7.5 grams of marijuana and a toking device. He was also bound by the conditions of a probation order to keep the peace and of good behaviour and to remain in his residence daily. As a result, Legault was charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and two counts of breach of probation. All are to appear in bail court this morning.

Male Arrested for Breaking Into Moody Street Residence:  

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 20 year-old Jody Edwards of 150 Henrietta Avenue on the 8th of January at 2 am on Moody Street and charged him with  one count of break and enter and one count of breach of probation.  It is alleged that on the 8th of January at approximately 1:10 am officers responded to a report of a break and enter in progress on Moody Street. 

The accused had fled prior to police arrival and the OPP Canine Unit was called in to assist.   The accused was located in the area and subsequently arrested.  The accused was also on a probation order with conditions to keep the peace and be good.  He is to appear in court on the 13th of February.

Male Youth Arrested for Attempt Break and Enter to Garage on Estelle Street: 

On the 7th of January officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were dispatched to the area of Estelle Street for youths in the vicinity attempting to break into a garage. Two males were stopped and checked by officers in front of a residence on Henrietta Avenue.

One of the males, a 15 year-old youth, was found to be on a probation order curfew with conditions to remain in his residence between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. unless with written permission from his youth worker. He did not have written permission with him and as a result he was placed under arrest for breaching his curfew.  Further, he was also to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. 

As a result, the accused was charged with one count of attempt break and enter and two counts of breach of probation.   He is to appear in court on the 14th of February. 

Male Arrested for Mischief: 

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested an18 year-old male on the 8th of January at 2:55 am after responding to a family dispute at his residence.  It is alleged that the accused smashed large holes in the walls of a bedroom and in a door in the residence.  As a result he was charged with one count of mischief under $5,000 and is to appear in court on the 13th of February. 

Break and Enter Reports:

  • A residence on Douglas Street was entered on the 9th of January between the 11 pm and 1 am.  A Plasma TV, two remotes and a watch were stolen.
  • A residence on Maple Street was broken into over the weekend.  A 40 inch Samsung television was reported stolen. 
  • A residence on Morin Street was entered between the 6th and 7th of January.  There was nothing reported taken. 
  • A room at a local hotel was broken into on Saturday evening.  A wallet and some clothes were reported taken.  
  • A residence on Pim Street was broken into on Saturday evening.  Cash and jewellery were reported taken. 
  • A residence on Lansdowne Avenue was broken into sometime between 10 am on the 6th and 4 am on the 7th of January.  Jewellery was reported stolen. 
  • A residence on First Avenue was entered between 6 pm and midnight on the 6th of January.  A laptop was reported taken. 
  • A vehicle was entered on Bay Street on the 6th of January.  A pair of sneakers were stolen.

Mischief Reports:  

  • On Saturday evening, a grocery cart was pushed into a Queen Street East business front door, smashing the glass out. 
  • Several tires were slashed on vehicles parked in an apartment complex parking lot on Silver Birch Drive overnight on the 7th/8th of January.   
  • Vehicle windows were smashed out on Wellington Street West and Allard Street.

Two Taxi Driver Robberies Under Investigation:  

Investigation Services are currently investigating two robbery incidents that occurred over this past weekend that involved taxi drivers from two separate taxi services being robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash. 

The first robbery occurred on Friday the 6th of January at approximately 9:27 pm. The taxi driver picked up a male fare on East Street and when arriving in the area of Albert Street and John Street, the male produced a knife, cut the cab radio cord and demanded cash from the driver.  The driver handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled on foot.  The driver was not physically injured. 

The suspect was described as being a white male, in his 20’s, approximately 5’10 with a thin build.  Officers searched the area with negative results. 

The second incident occurred at 2:10 am on the 9th of January.  The taxi driver picked up a male fare in the area of Huron and Albert Street West.  The male asked to be taken to the area of Central Street Park and once they arrived in that area, the male pulled out a knife, demanded cash and then cut the cord to the radio.  The suspect also threatened to kill the driver during the robbery.  The driver handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled on foot. The driver was not physically injured.   The OPP Canine Unit assisted in the search of the suspect, but officers were unsuccessful in locating him. 

The suspect was described as being a white male, in his 20’s, thin build, approximately 5’6-5’10.
