Male Youth with BB gun Arrested on the 22nd of January Faces Further Charges:


The same 17 year-old youth that was arrested by city police on the 22nd of January at 11:25 pm on Gore Street for carrying a concealed weapon and pointing it at persons passing by was further charged with one count of pointing a firearm and one count of assault with a weapon in relation to another incident with the BB gun earlier that day. It is alleged that on that same day between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm the accused was in the parking lot of the Station Mall on Bay Street when he pulled out the same Air Pistol BB Gun from his pants, pointed it at a 16 year-old male that was known to him and shot him in the chest area. The victim did not receive any injuries. The accused was arrested around noon on the 23rd of January while he was waiting for his bail hearing on the earlier charges.

Youth Arrested after Fleeing Police in Stolen Vehicle:

A 17 year-old male youth was arrested on the 23rd of January around 11:40 pm on Forrest Avenue and charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of fail to provide breath sample, one count of flight from police, one count of theft over $5,000.00, one count of mischief, one count of breach of probation and one count of fail to appear for prints. It is alleged that on the 23rd of January around 11:38 pm city police on routine patrol, observed a Chevy Blazer going through a yield sign at Queen Street at East Street, cutting off another vehicle. Officers activated the roof lights and siren but the vehicle did not initially stop. A short pursuit followed with the vehicle being stopped on Forest Avenue without incident. The male driver, the accused, attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehend by police. At the time of his arrest he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Police ran a check on the vehicle and discovered that it had been stolen from a driveway of a residence on Dawson Avenue around 11:30 pm. When the accused stole the vehicle and was driving it out of the driveway on Dawson Avenue, he struck another vehicle belonging to the same owner, an Oldsmobile that was also parked in the driveway at the time, damaging it. When the accused was brought to the station, he refused to provide a breath sample. Police also learned that the accused was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the 2nd of January for failing to appear for prints.

Domestic Related Arrest

A 20 year-old male was arrested on the 24th of January at 8:45 pm at his residence and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 24th of January the accused assaulted his girlfriend at their residence by slapping her in the face, pushing her to the ground, kicking her and then attempting to choke her. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the assault.

Youth Charged for Mischief at local Youth Residence:

A 14 year-old male youth was arrested on the 25th of January at 4:20 pm on Nixon Road and charged with one count of mischief. It is alleged that on the 25th of January the accused, a resident of a local Youth Home, caused damage to the residence by punching a closet door and kicking a bedroom door, damaging the frame. He is to appear in court on the 24th of February.

Male Arrested on Outstanding Domestic Related Warrant:

A 41 year-old male was arrested on the 25th of January at 10:30 am at the Algoma Remand and Treatment Centre on outstanding domestic related warrants and charged with two counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that on November 18th, 2008, the accused called his ex-girlfriend two times during the evening hours and harassed her over the phone. At the time of the incidents the accused was on conditions not to communicate with her. He is to appear in court on the 23rd of February.

Break and Enters:

• Police attended at Algoma Business Computers on Trunk Road on the 24th of January after the alarm went off at approximately 11:57 pm. When officers arrived they discovered that the business had been broken into. They searched the area but could not locate any suspect/s. Police feel that a vehicle may have been involved and left the area just prior to their arrival. It is not known at this time what was stolen.

• The Achievement House Store Office on Broos Road was entered sometime between 12:30 and 2:30 pm. Candy, chocolate bars, cookies and gum were reported stolen.

Thefts:

• A vehicle parked at a residence in the 500 block of Fourth Line East was entered sometime on Fridays night. An iPod and a Navigon GPS were reported stolen.
• A deposit bag with deposit slips was stolen out of a vehicle parked at the Essar Centre Saturday Night.

Mischief Reports:

• A door at the northwest entrance at White Pines High School was damaged sometime overnight on the 23rd of January.
• A window of a residence on Albert Street West was broken around 12:13 am on Saturday night.
