Two persons were arrested at 1:34 am this morning at 42 Cathcart Street as a result of two robberies overnight.
1) 27 year-old Jason Corbiere of #1-124 Andrew Street was charged with one count of robbery, and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.
2) 24 year-old Valerie Agawa of #1 – 42 Cathcart Street was charged with two counts of robbery, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of disguise with intent – face masked.

It is alleged that on the 20th of January at approximately 10:50 pm the accused Valerie Agawa got into a cab at the Mac’s Convenience Store on Gore Street wearing a black hoody and a scarf over her face. She asked the driver to take her to Edinburgh Street and when the driver was in this area she told him to pull over. The accused then brandished two knives, held one against the shoulder area of the driver and demanded money. The driver got out of the cab and the accused jumped out and demanded the money once again, holding the knives towards the driver. She fled on foot empty handed once the driver got back into the cab and drove off. She was last seen running towards North Street. The driver was not physically injured in this incident.

It is further alleged that at 12:40 am on the 21st of January the accused Valerie Agawa and the accused Jason Corbiere attended at the Mac’s Convenience Store on Gore Street, both wearing dark hoodies and Agawa with a scarf over her face. They advised the clerk that they had a gun and demanded cash and cigarettes. The two fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and approximately six packages of cigarettes. The two ran towards Cathcart Street. The Canine Unit responded and tracked them both to the residence on Cathcart Street where they were arrested. The clerk was not physically injured in this incident.

Assault & Resist Arrest

25 year-old Vyron Phillips of 3016 Dupont Street in Mineapolis, Minnestota was arrested on the 19th of January at 3:25 am at an east end residence and charged with one count of assault and one count of resist or obstruct peace officer. City police responded to a fight call at a party at the east end residence at around 3:05 am on the 19th of January. When officers arrived they discovered several persons inside and that the accused had got into a verbal argument with a 19 year-old female, not known to him, and punched her in the face. The victim received non-life threatening injuries. When the accused was being arrested he continuously pulled away and struggled with the officers.

Police arrested the following four persons as a result of domestic related incidents:

1) A 26 year-old female was arrested on the 19th of January at 2:30 pm at a downtown residence and charged with one count of assault and one count of assault with a weapon. It is alleged that on the 19th of January at 4:45 am the accused got into a verbal argument with her boyfriend at her residence and scratched him in the face and neck area several times. It is further alleged that she grabbed a butcher knife and raised it towards him. The victim received non-life threatening injuries.

2) A 23 year-old male was arrested on the 19th of January at 3:37 am at a west end residence and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused got into a verbal argument with his wife at their residence and assaulted her by throwing her and pushing her. The victim received non-life threatening injuries.

3) A 35 year-old male was arrested on the 19th of January at 2:55 am at a west end residence and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 19th of January at approximately 2:30 am the accused and his common law girlfriend got into a verbal argument at their residence and the accused assaulted her by grabbing her around the throat and pinning her against a wall and then pushing her to the ground. The victim did not receive any injuries.

4) A 26 year-old male was arrested on the 20th of January at 1 am at a west end residence and charged with one count of assault and one count of resist or obstruct peace officer. It is alleged that on the 20th of January at 12:40 am the accused assaulted his common-law spouse at their residence by grabbing her arm and then pinning her to a bed, not letting her get up. No injuries were reported to the victim. The accused is to appear in court on the 25th of February.

Impaired Driving

40 year-old Shawn Boyd Ross was arrested on the 18th of January at 8:25 pm on Wallace Terrace and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. It is alleged that on the 18th of January at 8:08 pm the accused was driving his GMC pick up truck southbound on Sherbourne Street when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Wallace Terrace and struck a Chev Blazer that was eastbound on Wallace Terrace. When officers attended to investigate they discovered that the accused was under the influence of alcohol. No injuries were reported in the accident. Both vehicles received moderate damage.
The accused is to appear in court on the 25th of February.

Possesion of Stolen Property

A 16 year-old male youth was arrested on the 19th of January at 3:15 am on Second Line West and charged with seven counts of possession of property obtained by crime. It is alleged that city policed received a call around 3 am to the Creekside Lane and Vesta Place area regarding a suspicious male going through vehicles. When officers arrived they were able to follow the fresh footprints of the suspect in the snow to the area of Second Line West and when they located him he was found in possession of various amounts of stolen property from seven vehicles consisting of a disc player, two phone jacks, a wallet, two CD’S prescription glasses, two auto manuals and some change. He is to appear in court on the 12th of February.

The following break and enters were reported over the weekend:

1) An apartment on Trunk Road was entered sometime on the 19th of January. It is not known at this time what was stolen.

2) An apartment on Queen Street West was entered on the 19th of January between 12 pm and 5 pm. A computer laptop was reported stolen.
