Male Arrested at Scene of Break and Enter: 21 year-old Mark Sweet of no fixed address was arrested on the 17th of January at 5:35 am on East Street and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000.00, one count of mischief over $5,000.
Male Arrested at Scene of Break and Enter:

21 year-old Mark Sweet of no fixed address was arrested on the 17th of January at 5:35 am on East Street and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000.00, one count of mischief over $5,000.00 and one count of break, enter and commit. It is alleged that on the 17th of January at approximately 4:15 am the accused smashed a windshield of a Pontiac Grand Am in the area of Pilgrim and Queen Street East. Shortly afterwards, the accused broke into the RBC Dominion Security office located on East Street, stole am electrical adapter and damaged office equipment and furniture inside the office.

Female Arrested on Outstanding Warrants:

26 year-old Mary Morine of #15-314 Albert Street East was arrested on the 16th of January at 1:55 pm on Bruce Street one several outstanding warrants. She was charged with one count of fail to appear court, two counts of fail to appear for prints and one count of breach of a release document.

Domestic Related Arrests:

1) On the 18th of January around 9:37 pm on Pumpkin Point Road, City police with assistance from the OPP, arrested A 31 year-old male wanted on outstanding domestic related warrants. It is alleged that on the 29th of October, 2008, the accused assaulted his common law spouse at their residence by elbowing her several times. It is further alleged that on the 18th of January around 4 am in the morning the accused damaged several personal belongings and other contents that belonged to his partner inside her residence.

2) A 45 year-old male was arrested on the 16th of January at 7:14 pm at a centrally located residence e and charged with two counts of breach of a recognizance order. It is alleged that on the 16th of January around 7 pm city police were called to domestic dispute at a centrally located residence. When they arrived they located the accused inside the residence and when they ran a check on him they discovered that he was not to communicate with the female that he was having the dispute with. He was also on conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

3) A 26 year-old male was arrested on the 17th of January at 1:03 pm at a downtown residence and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 17th of January at around 12:40 pm the accused got into a verbal argument with his ex-spouse at her residence and assaulted her by punching her in the face. The victim received non-life threatening injuries.

Impaired Driver Arrested:

28 year-old Dustin Brechin of 623 Shafer Avenue was arrested on the 18th of January at 8 am on Wellington Street West and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. It is alleged that just before 8 am city police received information regarding a possible impaired driver in the area of Wellington Street West. A witness reported that a male appeared to be passed out in the driver’s seat of a GMC pick up. When police arrived, they located the male passed out inside the truck with two half bottles of beer on his lap. When they woke him up he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He is to appear in court on the 23rd of February.

Male Charged for Taxi Fraud:

25 year-old Robert Day of 112 Railroad Avenue was arrested on the 17th of January at 3:25 am on Alexandra Street and charged with one count of transportation fraud. It is alleged that on the 17th of January just after 3 am the accused obtained transportation from a local cab company from the Sault Area Hospital to a residence on Alexandra Street and at the time he did not have the funds to pay the fare. He is to appear in court on the 9th of February.

Shoplifter Arrested:

27 year-old Elliott Southwind of #8-16 Terry Fox Place was arrested on the 16th of January at 6:55 pm on Queen Street East and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 16th of January around 6:45 pm the accused attended at Sears at the Station Mall and stole some clothing and ran from the Security guard that attempted to apprehend him. Security was able to catch up to him on Queen Street East near Dennis Street and held him for police. He is to appear in court on the 23rd of February.

Property Crimes:

Break and Enters:


• The Verdi Hall on Queen Street West was entered sometime overnight from the 17th-18th of January. Electronic equipment, liquor, and a safe with an undisclosed amount of cash were reported stolen. An office was ransacked and several pieces of office equipment inside were also damaged. Investigation continuing.
• An apartment in the 100 block of Queen Street East was entered.
• The janitorial room at the apartment complex at 345 St. George’s Avenue was broke into sometime between 10 pm and 9 am overnight on the 16th-17th of January. A digital surveillance video monitor, two cases of pop and other various supplies were stolen.
• A garage on Korah Road was entered from the 12th – 16th of January. Some tools were reported stolen.

Thefts:

• A snowblower was taken from a storage unit from a business on White Oak Drive.
• Vehicles were entered on Trunk Road, in the 600 block of Macdonald Avenue and Franklin Street. Items stolen included wallets, ID, and a Dewalt Cordless drill.

Mischief Reports:

Bus shelters were damaged on Sackville Road, Queen Street East and McNabb Street over the past weekend.
