Two Armed Robberies On January 15th at 10:51 pm City Police were notified of an armed robbery that had just occurred. Two male suspects entered the John Street Mini Mart located at 464 John Street. Both males had knives and showed them to the clerk.

On January 15th at 10:51 pm City Police were notified of an armed robbery that had just occurred. Two male suspects entered the John Street Mini Mart located at 464 John Street. Both males had knives and showed them to the clerk. The thieves demanded money and an undisclosed amount of money as well as cigarettes were turned over to the suspects. The males fled the store and were last seen headed towards North Street. The two suspects are described as follows:

One male is described as being Caucasian, 6 –6’2” tall, 16-175 lbs, late 20-s to early 30’s, long black winter coat possibly with a hood, a toque that came to a point at the back of the suspects neck, and he was unshaven and also had dark facial hair and eyebrows.

The other male is described as being 5’4 to 5’6” tall, 145-160 lbs, and he had a black balaclava style mask on which came down to the bridge of his nose. He is described as having a potbelly. H was also unshaven with salt and pepper whiskers on his face.

Approximately 8 minutes later at 10:59 pm City Police were send to another armed robbery, this one at Wardlaw Fuels located at 207 Wellington Street West. At that time a lone male entered the store and brandished a silver handgun. The suspect is described as being 18-23 years of age, 5’6”-5’7” tall, wearing a green ¾ length jacket with a hood and square pockets, black sweat pants with a large burgundy-red stripe down each side of the leg, he had a white bandana cover his face as a mask, and he had on white shoes with a black stripe on each side of each shoe. An undisclosed amount of money was handed over to the suspect. The male fled the store on foot headed towards St. Andrew Terrance.

Neither of the clerks were harmed in either of these robberies. City Police are asking anyone who witnessed either of these robberies, or who has any information regarding them to contact the City Police at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers at 942-7867 or 1-800-222-TIPS. If your information to Crime Stoppers leads to an arrest, you could receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.


8 People Appearing in Bail Court This Morning

A 32-year old male was arrested on January 14th and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused punched his common-law wife in the face.

A 40-year old male was arrested on the 14th of January after it is alleged that he threatened to assault his estranged wife. The male has been charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm.

A 45-year old male was charge with one count of breach of probation on the 14th. It is alleged that the accused walked by the residence of an ex-girlfriend a number of times. The accused was on probation with terms not to attend within 500 feet of the victim’s downtown address.

A 38-year old male was arrested and charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation on the 15th. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his common-law wife by grabbing her by the arms and pushing her while in their downtown residence. The accused was on probation at the time of the incident.

A 16-year old youth was arrested and charged with one count of breach of a release order and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm on January 13th. It is alleged that the youth threatened to burn a chair at a youth home in the city as well as harassing the staff while on conditions not to molest harass or annoy them.

50-year old David Saunders of main floor 75 James Street was arrested on the 13th of January and charged with one count of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance. It is alleged that an officer from the Joint Forces Drug Unit, which consists for members from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the OPP Drug Enforcement Section, the R.C.M.P., and the OPP NE region, observed the accused sell what was believed to be a narcotic to an individual. The officer stopped the accused, who was in his vehicle. The officers arrested the accused and a search of the vehicle located 17 individually bags of marijuana. The total amount of marijuana seized was 9.1 grams, which has a street value of approximately $137.

On the 13th of January officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Investigation Section executed a search warrant with the assistance of Patrol Officers. Officer executed the warrant in a room of a local downtown hotel. Officers located 6 grams of cocaine, 11 ecstasy pills and 1 gram of marijuana with a street value of just under $900. Officers also located a switchblade, which is a prohibited weapon.

24-year old Shaun Mearow of 220-40 Hynes Street has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon, and two count of breach of a release order.

18-year old Joshua Dumanski of 51 Sherwood Parkway has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon and one count of breach of probation. Both Mearow and Dumanski will appear in bail court today.

Female Charged with Possession

22-year old Cindy Biron of 305-588 Albert Street West has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon. She will appear in court on February 20th.

Youth Charged wtih Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

A 17-year old youth has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. The youth will appear in court on February 21st.

Impaired Driver

26-year old Julie Shaw of 125 Carufel Avenue was arrested on the 15th of January and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. It is alleged that just after 3am, the accused drove a vehicle into a snow bank on Douglas Street. She will appear in court on February 20th.
