The following persons will appear in bail court this morning: 1) 35-year old Melvin Brown of 3-101 Breton Road was arrested and charged with one count of robbery and one count of theft under $5,000.
The following persons will appear in bail court this morning:

1) 35-year old Melvin Brown of 3-101 Breton Road was arrested and charged with one count of robbery and one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused attended at the Mac’s Mart on Gore Street just after 2:30 am on the 13th of January and advised the clerk that he was robbing the store. The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of money. It is alleged that the accused also pushed a customer in the store that attempted to stop the accused. The accused also took a bag of potato chips. No one was harmed in the incident. The accused was arrested a short distance away.

2) 19-year old Michael Hodgson of 27 Nebenaigoching Street was arrested on the 12th of January and charged with one count of resist arrest and one count of breach of probation. On the 12th of January just after 9 pm City Police attended on Wellington Street West regarding a fight call. The accused was arrested on non-criminal matters and while being taken into custody it is alleged that the accused resisted officers. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good.

3) 19-year old Jonathon Fournier of no fixed address was arrested on the 13th of January and charged with one count of cause a disturbance by swearing, two counts of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and two counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused was causing a disturbance at the Sault Ste. Marie Charity Casino by swearing at officers who were investigating another incident. The accused also allegedly threatened to kill the two arresting officers. At the time of these offences the accused was on probation.

4) A 35-year old male was arrested on the 13th of January and charged with one count of resist arrest and one count of mischief under $5,000. It is alleged that on the 13th of January the accused became involved in a verbal argument with his wife. It is alleged that the accused also punched a hole in the wall of a door in the home. Officers attended and the accused fled from them. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

5) A 21-year old female was arrested on the 15th of January and charged with one count of assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged that the accused and her boyfriend became involved in a domestic dispute in the early morning hours of the 15th. It is alleged that the accused punched the male victim, bit him in the check and hit him with a cordless phone. It is alleged that the accused also threatened to kill the victim while holding a knife. It is alleged that the accused also slapped her young child and pushed the child at the victim. The male victim did not require medical treatment at the time of the incident.

Impaired Driving

Just after 6:30 am on the 12th of January officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended in the 300 block of Old Goulais Bay Road for a single motor vehicle collision. Officers found a vehicle in the ditch on its roof. The driver, 26-year old Sarah McCulloch of 202-1046 Peoples Road, was arrested and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of fail to provide breath sample. The accused was not injured and her vehicle received moderate damage. The accused will appear in court on February 12th.

Theft Over $5000, Possession of Property Obtained in a Crime & Breach

55-year old Domas Balciunas of 18-306 Korah Road was arrested on the 12th of January and charged with one count of theft over $5,000, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and two counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 8th of January the accused stole a SMC sierra truck from the downtown area. The accused was stopped by officers on the 12th of January driving the stolen vehicle. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with conditions. He will appear in court on February 12th.

Busted for Stealing a Pickup Truck

An 18-year old male was arrested on the 14th of January and charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and three counts of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). It is alleged that on the 14th of January the accused stole a pickup truck from a local repair shop. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation under the YCJA. He will appear in court on February 20th.

Security staff at a number of businesses were kept busy this weekend. The following persons were arrested for shoplifting:

1) A 15-year old youth was arrested on the 12th of January and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the female took several items of clothing as well as makeup from the Zellers Store in the Station Mall. She will appear in court on February 20th.

2) 59-year old Edward Wright of 209-222 Albert Street West was arrested on the 14th of January and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused attempted to take a Columbia jacket from Sears. He will appear in court on February 19th.

3) 50-year old Ada Scanga of 464 Henry Street was arrested on the 14th of January and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused attempted to take clothing, perfume and towels from Sears. She will appear in court on February 19th.

4) A 14-year old youth was arrested on the 14th of January and charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of a release order. It is alleged that the youth attempted to take makeup from Rome’s. It is further alleged that the accused failed to notify a change of address condition. She will appear in court on February 20th.

5) A 14-year old youth was arrested on the 14th of January and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the youth attempted to take makeup from Rome’s. She will appear in court on February 20th.

The following break and enters were reported over the weekend:

1) On the 13th of January just after 1 pm a homeowner on Carpin Beach Road reported that a garage had been entered sometime between December 15th and January 13th. Approximately $11,000 worth of car parts were taken.

2) On the 13th of January just after 1:30 pm officers attended in the 400 block of Albert Street West for a break and enter to a residence. There are no details available at this time.

3) Sometime between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on the 13th of January a residence on Panaramic Avenue was entered. It is unknown if anything was taken at this time.

Now that the snow has arrived the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has received it’s first reports of thefts of snowmachines:

1) Sometime between January 11th and January 12th a 1997 Ski Doo Formula 3, purple and yellow in colour, was taken from the front yard of a home on Elliott Road.

2) Overnight between the 12th and 13th of January a 1996 Polaris Indy, blue in colour, was taken from Autorama on Black Road.
