Sudden Death Investigation at the Sault Area Hospital Detoxification Centre

At approximately 6:19 am this morning City Police were called to the Sault Area Hospital Detoxification Centre at 911 Queen Street East regarding the discovery of a deceased 27 year-old male. The male was a temporary resident of the Centre.

Investigation and Forensic Services attended on scene. Investigation Services indicate that there is no foul play suspected at this time and the investigation is now under the direction of the Coroner’s office.

There are no other details to be released at this time.

Male Arrested for Residence Break and Enter

32 year-old Maurice Brosseau of #2-24 Elmwood Avenue was arrested on the 19th of February at 11:59 pm on Elmwood Avenue and charged with one count of break, enter and commit. It is allege that on the 19th of February at approximately 11:50 pm the accused broke into a residence on Elmwood Avenue. The accused fled when discovering the homeowner was inside but was quickly located and apprehended by police in the area. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Three Youths Arrested after Stealing Vehicle

On the 20th of February at approximately 1:13 am police conducted a vehicle stop on Tilley Road. When officers approached the vehicle, two male passengers fled on foot, but were quickly apprehended. A check of the vehicle revealed that it had been reported stolen earlier in the evening from a residence on Panoramic Drive. Two 16 year-old male youths were charged each with one count of possession of stolen property and are to appear in court on the 23rd of March. The 17 year-old male driver of the vehicle was charged with one count of possession of stolen property and three counts of breach of probation and is to appear in bail court this morning.

Domestic Related Arrests

A 46 year-old male was arrested on several outstanding domestic related warrants on the 21st of February at 7 pm. He had been charged with one count of threaten death or bodily harm, two counts of assault, one count of overcome resistance by choking, one count of forcible confinement, one count of threaten to injure animal and one count of assault with a weapon. The charges are in relation to numerous incidents of domestic violence involving his common law partner and occurred at their place of residence. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

A 31 year-old female was arrested on the 19th of February at 9:05 pm on a domestic related warrant and charged with one count of assault, one count of breach of release order and one count of fail to appear court. She is to appear in court on the 29th of March.

Male Charged with Mischief

22 year-old Gordon Brown was arrested on the 20th of February at 4:17 am on Pim Street and charged with one count of mischief. It is alleged that on the 20th of February at approximately 4 am the accused, while in an intoxicated condition, damaged a door of a residence on Pim Street. He is to appear in court on the 29th of March.

Male Shoplifter Charged

21 year-old Paul Morin of #2-428 Wellington Street East was arrested on the 19th of February at 2:52 pm at Sears in the Station Mall and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 19th of February just after 2 pm the accused attended at Sears and stole a pair of sunglasses. He was apprehended by Security and held for police. He is to appear in court on the 22nd of March.

Break and enter reports

• The Medicine Shoppe on Queen Street East was entered on the 22nd of February at 4:33 am. Some prescription drugs were reported stolen.
• A residence on Pilgrim Street was entered during the day on the 21st of February. A DVD Player was reported stolen.
• A residence on Pim Street was entered on the morning of the 20th of February. A cordless drill, a skillsaw, battery charger, a socket set and a Sony CD player were reported stolen.
• A garage on Chambers Avenue was entered on the 20th of February. A car stereo was stolen from a vehicle that was inside.
• An attempt break and enter occurred at the Roosevelt Hotel on the 21st of February at 1:11 am.

Mischief Reports

• Two bags of garbage left overnight on Fifth Line East were lit on fire on the 20th of February.
• A home on Field Square Drive and a vehicle parked on Pleasant Drive were egged.
• A vehicle on Forest Avenue was vandalized on the 20th of February.

Thefts

Vehicles were entered on Biggings Avenue, Andrew Street, Lake Street, Pointe Louise Drive in the Station Mall parking lot and on Primrose Avenue. Several items were reported stolen, including a laptop, a Sirrius Satellite radio, an iPod, a purse, a gym bag containing clothing, a jacket and cash, car keys and magazines.

Citizens should remember to keep their vehicles locked at all times and always remove anything of value. If anything of value must be stored in the vehicle, then it should be hidden from plain view or secured in the trunk. Vigilance by locking vehicles and removing items of temptation will greatly reduce incidents of theft.
