The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Investigation Unit is currently investigating three robberies that occurred over the weekend and is asking for the public’s assistance. 

Grosvenor Avenue residence break and enter/robbery 

On February 11 at approximately 10:09 p.m., officers received a break and enter complaint form a homeowner on Grosvenor Avenue. 

Officers attended and learned that two males had broken into the residence at approximately 10:06 p.m. while the resident was inside. 

Both males were wearing scarfs covering their faces and one of the males was carrying a handgun.

The suspects demanded pills and cash from the resident.

The victim advised he did not have any of these items and both males fled with from the home with three bottles of liquor. 

They were last seen running down Grosvenor Avenue towards Bruce Street.  

The victim was not physically injured. 

Officers searched the area with assistance from the OPP Canine Unit but were unsuccessful in located the suspects.

Description of the two male suspects: approximately 20-30 years of age, approximately 5’11 and heavy builds.  

Both were wearing dark jackets, toques with scarfs covering their faces and gloves.

Robbery at Metallos Mini Mart on Northern Avenue 

On February 11 at approximately 10:38 p.m., a lone male robbed Metallos Mini Mart at 147 Northern Avenue. 

The male had a white coat on, with the hood pulled around covering his face, and was armed with a gun. 

The suspect demanded all the cash and cartons of cigarettes. 

The male fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of these items and the clerk was not physically injured. 

Officers searched the area with negative results.

Description of suspect: approximately 20 years of age, 6 feet tall, wearing a fur-trimmed white coat.

Robbery at Canadian Tire Gas Bar on Wellington Street West

On February 12 at approximately 6:58 p.m. a lone male robbed the Canadian Tire Gas Bar at 752 Wellington Street West. 

The male had his face covered with a black balaclava, was armed with a knife and demanded the cash from the clerk. 

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money out of the till and fled on foot in a southbound direction. 

The clerk was not physically injured. 

Officers searched the area with negative results. 

Description of male suspect: male appeared to be between 18-25 years of age, wearing a green hoodie covering his head with a black balaclava over his face, dark gloves, black jeans, a white parka style jacket with fur around the hood and a half-moon black symbol/ logo on the back.

The investigations are ongoing. 

Officers are requesting the public’s assistance with their investigations and are attempting to identify the suspects responsible.

Male Youth Arrested for Mischief and Break and Enter:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 14 year-old youth on the 10th of February at 4 pm at his residence and charged him with one count of break and enter and one count of mischief under $5,000.  It is alleged that on the 10th of February the accused broke into a residence of a person known to him and caused damage to a door as a result.  The accused is to appear in court on the 12th of March. 

Shoplifting Related Charges:  

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 29 year-old Lynn Kwissiwa of 218 Cheshire Road on the 11th of February and charged her with one count of theft under $5,000.00.  It is alleged that on the 11th of February at approximately 4:45 pm the accused attended at Wal-Mart and stole a number of items.   She is to appear in court on the 12th of March.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 18 year-old Sebastien Audette of 107 Trelawne Avenue on the 11th of February and charged him with one count of theft under $5,000.00.  It is alleged that on the 11th of February the accused attended at the Metro store on Second Line West and stole a number of items.   He is to appear in court on the 12th of March.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Arrested Eight Persons in Relation to Domestic Related Incidents: 

1) A 26 year-old male was arrested on the 10th of February and charged with one count of assault for allegedly assaulting his common law girlfriend during a verbal argument at their residence on the 10th of February.

2) A 23 year-old male was arrested on the 12th of February and charged with one count of assault and one count of mischief under $5,000.  It is alleged that on the 12th of February the accused attended at his ex-girlfriend’s residence, assaulted her and smashed her cell phone.  The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result.

3) A 54 year-old male was arrested on the 11th of February and charged with three counts of breach of probation for allegedly attending at his ex-girlfriend’s residence on that date when he was on probation conditions not to attend there.  Further he was not to communicate with her and was to keep the peace and be good.

4)  A 20 year-old male was arrested on the 11th of February and charged with three count of breach of probation.  It is alleged that on the 1st of January to the 5th of February the accused contacted his ex-girlfriend on two occasions when he was on probation conditions not to communicate with her.  Further, he was to keep the peace and be good.

5)  A 37 year-ld female was arrested on the 11th of February and charged with one count of assault and one count of threaten to damage property.  It is alleged that on the 10th of February the accused assaulted her common law partner at her residence and threatened to damage some of her property. 

6) A 22 year-old male was arrested on the 12th of February and charged with one count of breach of probation.  It is alleged that on that date, the accused contacted a female that he was on conditions not to communicate with due to previous domestic related charges. 

 7)  A 25 year-old male was arrested on the 12th of February and charged with one count of break and enter, one count of mischief  under $5,000, one count of threaten death and four counts of assault.  It is alleged that on the 9th of February the accused attend at his ex-girlfriend’s residence and forced his way in when she refused him entry.  The door of the residence was damaged as a result and when he gained entry he assaulted her.  The victim received non-life threatening injures during the incident.  Further, the accused was wanted on outstanding warrants in relation to assaulting and threatening the same victim on other occasions in 2011. 

8) A 36 year-old male was arrested on the 10th of February and charged with one count mischief under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation.  It is alleged that on the 10th of February the accused attended at the residence of his ex-girlfriend, refused to leave and drove his pickup truck into the wooden steps of the home, breaking one of the steps.  At the time he was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good.

Impaired Driving Arrest:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 47 year-old Nadine St. Jacques of 34 Terrance Avenue on the 12th of February  at 2:35 am and charged her with one count of consume over the legal limit.  It is alleged that on the 12th of February at approximately 2:29 am the accused was operating her 1992 GMC Sierra pickup eastbound on Second Line East near Carmen's Way where she approached a RIDE spot check.  At the time she was found to be under the influence of alcohol and failed the roadside screening device test administered by the officers.  She is to appear in court on the 12th of March. 

Break and Enter Reports:

  • A residence on Charles Street was entered on the 12th of February.  A purse was stolen.
  • An office was broken into at a local high school on the 12th of February at approximately 1:53 am.
  • A residence on Franklin Street was entered on the 11th of February.
  • A residence on Chambers Avenue was entered on the 11th of February.  A television and a computer were reported taken.
  • A residence was entered on Wallace Terrace sometime between the 10th and 12th of February.  A 32 inch LCD television, medication and cash were reported taken.
  • A vehicle on Pentagon Boulevard was broken into on the 12th of February.  A purse and identification that had been left inside were reported stolen. 

RIDE Program Results:

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service conducted a RIDE Program on Saturday evening.  There were 201 vehicles checked, two Provincial Offense Notices were issued and 2 roadside screening device test were administered.  One female was charged with consuming over the legal limit.
