The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in the following matter: On Saturday December 20th at approx 8:00 pm Lisa Alford had missed her bus home from the Zellers Plaza, 248 Northern Ave.
The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in the following matter:

On Saturday December 20th at approx 8:00 pm Lisa Alford had missed her bus home from the Zellers Plaza, 248 Northern Ave. A Good Samaritan assisted Ms Alford by giving her a ride home. When Ms Alford got out of the lady’s SUV she forgot her purse in the vehicle. The City Police are requesting that the citizen that assisted Ms Alford contact them so that the purse may be returned.
Unfortunately Ms Alford did not have any identification in the purse.

Two persons to appear in bail court:

1) A 27-year-old female was arrested early this morning and charged with two counts of breach of probation and two counts of breach of a recognizance. It is alleged that at approx. 2:00 am this morning the accused attended at the residence of a male person she was not to communicate with. It is further alleged that she annoyed this person. At time of these offences the accused was on release orders to not attend at the residence of the complainant or to communicate, molest, harass or annoy the complainant.

2) On Friday December 19th at approx. 8:40 pm city police arrested a 38-year-old male and charged him with one count of forcible confinement, one count of assault with a weapon and one count of assault. It is alleged that at approx. 12:30 am on December 19th the accused assaulted his girlfriend by punching her and then striking her with a tire iron. The accused is further alleged to have forcible detained the victim. The victim attended at the Sault Area Hospital for treatment.

Male arrested for failing to provide sample:

On Sunday December 20th at approx. 7:50 pm city police arrested and charged a 39-year-old male with one count of failing to provide a suitable sample for a breathalyzer. It is alleged that the accused male, who was operating a motor vehicle on Base Line, while under the influence of alcohol, was stopped by police and requested to provide a suitable breath sample. The accused failed to do so and was subsequently arrested and charged. Charged is Robert Nicolson, age 39, of 318 Pine Shore Dr. He will be appearing in court on Jan 25th at 9:00 am.

Female arrested for impaired driving:

On Saturday December 19th at approx. 10:20 pm city police were called to investigate a motor vehicle collision on Dennis St. It is alleged that at the time of the collision the accused was operating her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of drive over 80 mgs is
Dianne Palahnuk, age 46, of 594 MacDonald Ave. She will be appearing in court on Jan 25th at 9:00 am.

Female arrested for assault with a weapon:

On Sunday December 20th at approx. 5:15 pm city police arrested a 22-year-old female and charged her with one count of assault with a weapon. It is alleged that earlier in the day the accused assaulted her common-law-boyfriend by cutting him with a knife. The victim, who suffered cuts to his hand, was taken to hospital for treatment. The accused will be appearing in court on Jan 27th at 9:30 am.

Female arrested for theft under $ 5,000:

On Sunday December 20th at approx. 3:00 pm city police arrested a 42 year-old female and charged her with one count of theft under $ 5,000. It is alleged that at approx 2:45 pm, the accused attended at the Metro Store, located at 275 Second Line W. and stole approx $ 342.00 worth of groceries. Marie Gagnon, age 42, of 108 Albert St. W. will be appearing in court on Jan 20th at 9:30 am.

Police R.I.D.E. Program

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service operated their Festive R.I.D.E. On Thursday Dec 17th and Friday Dec 18th. On Dec 17th Police stopped 136 vehicles and performed 3 roadside tests.

On Dec 18th Police stopped 550 vehicles, performed 2 roadside tests and issued one 3 -day suspension.

Property Crimes:

Break and enters:


The Beaver Gas Station located at 143 Trunk Rd was broken into on Saturday Dec 19th at approx. 1:00 am. A quantity of cash was stolen.

On Friday December 18th at approx. 1:30 pm a residence in the 2000 block of Queen St. E. was broken into. Two male suspects were seen leaving the residence and getting into a red and grey Grand Prix. The vehicle was parked on Louise Ave and was driven by a third male. All three suspects are described as white males, in the early 20’s 5’10” tall and approx. 170lbs.A quantity of cash and jewelllery was taken. Anyone with further information on this incident is asked to call the city police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Mischief:

City police investigated a rash of vehicles being damaged on Sat. December 19th. Vehicles parked in the Plummer Hospital, the 100 block of Forest Ave, the 600 and 700 block of Wellington St. E. and the 100 block of Wallace Terr. Were reported to have had their windshields damaged.

Christmas decorations were reported damaged at a residence in the 100 block of Chambers Ave.

Theft:

A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Tilley Rd was entered - personal papers were reported stolen.
A 1984 Yamaha snow machine was reported stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Cambridge Pl.
