Weekend Festive RIDE Program Results: It is through the RIDE ((Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign programs that we are able to raise awareness regarding drinking and driving and keep our roads and communities safer.

Weekend Festive RIDE Program Results: 

It is through the RIDE ((Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign programs that we are able to raise awareness regarding drinking and driving and keep our roads and communities safer. In a further proactive effort to reduce impaired drivers on our roadways, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service conducted the Festive RIDE Program over this past weekend.  On Friday and Saturday evening there were 976 vehicles checked with no charges or offence notices issued. 

Reminder - If you spot a driver you suspect is impaired, call 911 immediately.

Convenience Store Armed Robbery Under Investigation:

On Sunday the 11th of December at 8:09 pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received a call of an armed robbery at the Airways General Store at 2667 Second Line West.  Police attended and discovered that the two persons responsible had fled on foot from the store.  The two suspects, believed to be males, approximately 16-18 years of age, were wearing hoddies covering their faces.  One of the suspects was carrying a rifle, the other a black bag.  The suspects demanded cash and cigarettes and fled on foot from the store with the items.  The OPP assisted with their Canine Unit, but the suspects were not located.  The suspect that was carrying the black bag had his face covered and was wearing a black jacket with white stripes on the elbow area.  The suspect with the rifle was described as being thin, wearing gloves, a hooded sweater that was blue and purple with a horizontal design.  The clerk was not physically harmed during the incident.  The investigation is continuing.

Break and Enter/Theft Reports:

  • A residence on Goulais Avenue was entered on the 10th of December.  Liquor, jewellery and an Apple iPod were reported taken. 
  • A residence on East Braemar Bay was entered on Friday night.  Jewellery and some other items were stolen. 
  • An attempt break and enter was reported to a residence on West Braemar Bay. 
  • A vehicle on Hillside Drive was entered on Friday.  Change was reported taken.
  • Licence plates were stolen from a vehicle on Doncaster Road.

Mischief Reports:

  • Two mailboxes were reported damaged on Town Line Road and Leigh’s Bay Road.
  • A fence on Kohler Street was vandalized.
  • A window at a local downtown business was smashed.

Two Youths Arrested on Outstanding Warrants: 

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 17 year-old male youth wanted on outstanding warrants at 5:30 pm on the 11th of December and charged him with two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of breach of probation.  The accused was wanted in relation to an incident that occurred on the 24th of November at a local high school when he allegedly was in possession of a knife and threatened to stab two fellow students.  The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 15 year-old male youth wanted on outstanding warrants on the 10th of December at 4:05 pm and charged him with four counts of breach of probation and two counts of breach of a release document.  The charges are in relation to the accused breaching his curfew conditions on numerous occasions since the 3rd of December.  The accused is to appear in bail court this morning. 

Female Arrested for Theft:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 18 year-old Kelsey Frolich of 48 Ferguson Avenue on the 9th of December at 4:43 pm at her residence and charged her with one count of theft under $5,000.007.  It is alleged that on the 14th of November the accused was in possession of a debit card of a person known to her, and without their permission, used it to withdraw $400.00 from the ATM machine at Wal-Mart.  The accused is to appear in court on the 9th of January.

Male Youth Arrested and Charged with Dangerous Driving, Drug and Weapons Offences: 

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 16 year-old male youth on the 11th of December at 12:11 am and charged him with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, one count of possession of housebreaking tools, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of forgery.  It is alleged that on the 12th of December at approximately 12:05 am officers received a call regarding an erratic driver in the area of Adelaide and McNabb Street that had cut off another motorist.  The motorist reported to police that the black Chev pickup was tailgating and attempting to ram his vehicle.   The truck was also travelling at a high rate of speed and failed stop for the red light at Second Line East and Old Garden River Road.  Officers stopped the truck at Second Line and Great Northern Road and arrested the accused for dangerous driving.  At the time of his arrest the accused was found in possession of 4.6 grams of cocaine, 20.8 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, a marijuana grinder, bear spray, brass knuckles and a pry bar.  The accused also had a false Alberta ID card in his possession.  The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.
