Internet communication with an underage female leads to charges

A 29 year old male was arrested by officers from the Technical Crime Unit on the 10th of December and charged with 4 separate offences dealing with internet specific crimes. It is alleged that between the 1st of August 2012 and the 25th of November 2012 the male repeatedly communicated with an underage female victim for sexual purposes. He will appear in bail court on the 11th of December.

Vandalism

Vehicles and a building in the downtown area of the city were spray painted over the weekend. No further details are available at this time.

Theft

Snowboarding equipment was stolen from a vehicle in the east end sometime overnight.

Jordan Porter arrested for November 23rd Mac’s Mart Robbery

Yesterday afternoon, officers with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service have arrested 23 year old Jordan Porter in relation to a robbery that occurred on November 23rd at the Mac’s Mart located at 187 Gore Street.  As a result of the investigation Mr. Porter has been charged with one count of robbery, one count of breaching his recognizance and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.  He will appear in bail court today.

House Fire on Korah Road

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are currently on scene at a house fire in the 400 block of Korah Road.  Police were notified of the fire at approximately 4:45 a.m. and quickly responded along with Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services.  The fire was brought under control and is now being investigated by fire services as suspicious.  The residence was found to be vacant at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported.

Update to Collision on Queen Street East

The public is advised that Queen Street East between Simpson Street and Leo Avenue is now opened. Officers from Traffic Services are continuing their investigation into this collision.

Arrests

25 year old Tyler Nicholas Seaton of no fixed address is in custody charged with assault and breach of probation.  It is alleged that during the evening on the 8th of December 2012 the accused grabbed a female known to him by her by the arm and pushed her to the ground on Albert Street East. He will appear in bail court Monday morning.

A 32 year old male will appear in bail court Monday morning after being charged with one count of assault and one count of assault with a weapon.  It is alleged that the accused assaulted his common law wife by grabbing her by the throat and pushing her to the ground. Once she was on the ground the accused grabbed a plastic chair and threw it at the victim, striking her in the shoulder.  She did not require any medical attention.

A 37-year old male was arrested on the 9th of December and charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of assault.  It is alleged that on the 6th of December 2012 the accused assaulted his girlfriend by grabbing her and dragging her.  Further it is alleged that on the 9th of December 2012 the accused sexually assaulted the same female.  The accused will appear in bail court Monday morning.

Property Related

Two propane tanks were taken from Johnson’s RV on Trunk Road. 

A residence in the 100 black of James Street was entered between 9 pm and 1 am.  A lap top and a 40 inch television were taken.
