Assault On Saturday August 16th at approx. 1:45 am city police were called to a west end residence regarding a domestic assault. Upon arrival officers spoke to the victim and a short time later located and arrested a male suspect.
Assault

On Saturday August 16th at approx. 1:45 am city police were called to a west end residence regarding a domestic assault. Upon arrival officers spoke to the victim and a short time later located and arrested a male suspect. It is alleged that the accused, a 30-year-old male assaulted the victim by punching, kicking and striking the victim with a purse. It is further alleged that the accused threatened to kill the victim. At the time of the incident the accused was on a probation order release with conditions to not consume alcohol and not to communicate with the victim. The male is charged with one count of assault, two counts of breach of probation and one count of threatening.

Drug arrests

At approx. 10:00 pm on Friday August 15th city police executed a drug warrant at an address on Peoples Rd. As a result of the search officers arrested Loren Beaird, age 26, of 993 Peoples Rd, Kodi Desjardins-Devoni, age 19, of 306 St. Patrick St. and Marty Ferland, age 27, of 993 Peoples Rd. It is alleged that the accused, Desjardins- Devoni was in possession of 18.3 grams cannabis marihuana and 2 grams cannabis resin. It is alleged that accused Beaird was in possession of 160 grams of cannabis marihuana and 6.6 grams of cannabis resin. It is alleged that accused Ferland was in possession of 1 gram of cannabis resin, 179 grams of cannabis marihuana and 3.5 grams of oxycodone tablets.

Accused Kodi Desjardins-Devoni is charged with three count of possession of a substance. He will be appearing in court on Sept 22nd.

Accused Loren Beaird is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. He will be appearing in court on Sept 15th.

Accused Marty Ferland is charged with two counts of possession of a substance and three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. He will be appearing in court on Sept. 15th.

On Sunday August 17th at approx. 2:40 pm city police arrested two males for possession of stolen property and possession for the purpose of trafficking. It is alleged that the two accused males were in a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Subsequent to the arrest the officers located approx. 12 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine, on the accused persons. James Gilbert, age 50, of 369 North St. and Gerald Burns, age 37 of 369 North St. are each charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. They will be appearing in court on Sept 22nd.

Person arrested for impaired driving

On Saturday August 16th city police were called to attend on Maple St. regarding a vehicle that struck a utility pole and failed to remain. The suspect vehicle and driver were located a short distance away. It is alleged that the driver, 23-year-old Joel Schryer, of 525 North St. was operating his vehicle while his ability to do so was impaired by alcohol. Mr. Schryer is charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of drive over 80mgs. He will be appearing in court on Sept15th at 9:00 am.

Man arrested for mischief

On Sunday Aug 17th at approx. 3:15 am city police arrested a male for mischief. It is alleged that Charles McCabe, age 25, damaged the front hood and a window on a Union Cab. It is not known at this time what caused Mr. McCabe to become upset and damage the cab. Charles McCabe, age 25, of 1552 Old Garden River Rd. is charged with one count of mischief. He will be appearing in court on Sept 15th.

Break and enters

City police investigated three reports of break and enters over the weekend.

1. A garage in the 100 block of Robin St. was entered - a bicycle was stolen.
2. An apartment in the 400 block of Second Line W. was entered - jewellery and a television were stolen.
3. An apartment in the 400 block of Queen St. W. was entered - a television was stolen.

Fire

On Aug 16th at approx 6:40 am both the Sault Ste Marie Police Service and the Sault Ste Marie Fire Department responded to a call regarding playground equipment on fire on Amber St. Playground equipment had been set on fire. The fire was extinguished. Investigation into this incident is continuing.

Mischief

City police investigated the following mischief complaints:
1. A bus shelter was damaged on Brien Ave.
2. A residence in the 200 block of Prentice Ave and a residence in the 300 block of Goulais Ave report windows being shot with pellet guns.
3. A residence in the 100 block of Ashgrove Ave was egged.
4. Solar lights were damaged at a home in the 100 block of Henrietta Ave.
5. Vehicles parked in the 600 block of Sherbourne St and in the 100 block of Allen St. were reported damaged.
6. A window on a residence in the 400 block of Franklin St. was damaged.

Thefts

City police received reports of thefts from the following locations:

1. A residence in the 100 block of Robin St. - unknown items were stolen from a vehicle.
2. A bike was stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Cunningham Rd.
3. A bike was stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Sutton Pl.
4. A bike was stolen from the 500 block of Douglas St.
5. A bike was stolen from the 800 block of Queen St. E.
6. A unicycle was stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Panoramic Dr.
7. A car stereo was stolen from a vehicle in the 300 block of Cathcart St.
