UPDATE - THREAT TO SCHOOL SAFETY - ARREST MADE (SIR JAMES DUNN C. & V.S.)

As a result of an ongoing investigation on the 21st of April, 2008 at 10:47 a.m., the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested and charged a 16 year old male youth for an Internet-based threat against Sir James Dunn C. & V.S. The accused was arrested at Sir James Dunn where he is a student. He has been charged with: one count Threaten Death or Bodily Harm, one count of Mischief, and one count of Conveying a False Message.

The accused young offender is scheduled to appear in Bail Court on Tuesday, April 22, 2008.

There was no evidence to suggest that the accused posed any physical threat to the health and well-being of students and faculty at Sir James Dunn C. & V.S. Police believed the accused person acted alone.

The following six persons will be appearing in bail court today:

1. Melanie Syrette, age 28, of 181 Elgin St. Apt. # 1. It is alleged that on Friday April 18th at approx.12:10 pm the accused attended at the Station Mall and was seen stealing a pair of glasses from one of the shops. Mall security was notified and followed the accused into another store where she was observed steal more items. As the accused exited the shop the security officer attempted to arrest the accused but in doing so the accused began kicking and making threats to the security officer. Accused was subsequently restrained and charged with: one count of theft under $5,000, one count of resist arrest, one count of assault, one count of threatening and five counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

2. A 50-year-old male was arrested on Friday April 18th and charged with two counts of mischief, three counts of assault one count of theft under $ 5,000 and one count of resist arrest. It is alleged that between January and April 18th 2008 the accused assaulted his common-law wife on two occasions. He is further alleged to have stolen money from her and damaged her vehicle and her telephone. The assaulted is further alleged to have assaulted another family member by shoving her to the ground. At the time of his arrested the accused resisted the arresting officers. The victims did not require medical attention as a result of the assaults.

3 A 16-year-old youth was arrested on April 18th at approx 9:10 pm and charged with two counts of robbery.

4. A 15-year-old was arrested on April 18th at approx. 9:40 pm and charged with two counts of robbery. It is alleged that the two accused youths stole an X-Box and cash from two youths at the Steelback Centre on April 8th. (See news release below)
Yesterday the Sault Ste Marie Police Service received a complaint of a robbery. It was reported that at approx. 2:30 pm two male youths, leaving the Station Mall while carrying an X-Box were approached by two adult males in the parking lot of the Steelback Centre. The two adults then threatened the victims and forcibly stole the X-Box from the youths. The suspects were last seen running east through the Steelback parking lot. The two suspects are described as:
White males, 18-21 years of age, 5’8” tall, med build, short hair, wearing dark grey hoodie, one had fake fur trim, and dark pants. One suspect was described as having acne on his face.


5. A 52-year-old male was arrested on Friday April 18th at approx. 11:30 pm and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his common-law-partner by punching her in the face on April 18th. The victim did not require medical attention.

6 & 7. Christian Lagace, age 27,of 55 Second Ave, Wawa and
Chad Millette, age 27, of 42 Third Ave, Wawa. It is alleged that on Friday April 19th at approx. 10:30 pm the two accused attempted to break into a residence on Henrietta St. The accused were observed by neighbours carrying crow bars and proceeding to the rear of a house. The accused were apprehended by the Sault Ste Marie Police Service a short time later. The two accused are each charged with one count of attempted break and enter, one count of possession of house breaking tools and one count of trespass by night. Robbery from Beaver Gas Bar

On Saturday April 19th at approx. 7:30 pm the Sault Ste Marie Police Service received a report of a robbery at the Beaver Gas bar located at 400 McNabb St. (at Pine St.). A lone male suspected entered the office of the gas bar and demanded money from the attendant. The suspect mentioned that he had a weapon. A small amount of cash was received by the suspect before he fled. The suspect is described as:
Male, 5’6”, 190 lbs, stocky build, brown goatee, wearing a black sweater or hoodie, also wearing sunglasses and a motorcycle helmet. Suspect may have had a motorcycle parked at the rear of the gas bar near the Food Basics Store. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the city police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service investigated five break and enters over the weekend.

The following addresses were entered:
An apartment in the 100 block of Elmwood Ave - electronic equipment was taken.
a home in the 100 block of Laronde Ave. - a quantity of china was stolen
a home in the 100 block of Louise Ave. - a television and other electronics were stolen
a home in the 100 block of Algoma Ave - a lap top and a computer were taken
a residence in the 300 block of Pointe des Chenes Cr. was entered for the second time this week - unknown what was stolen on this incident.

City Police received reports of mischief to the following locations:

A residence in the 100 block of Blucher St. - windows were reported damaged.
A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Wiber St. had a window damaged.
A vehicle parked in the 300 block of Wellington St.W. was damaged.
A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Meadow Park Cr. was damaged.
A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Bay St. was egged.
A bus shelter located near the 400 block of Northern Ave. was damaged.

The city police received three reports of stolen bicycles over the weekend.

Bikes were stolen from the 100 block of McDonald Ave and the 100 block of Johnson Ave. Please lock your bicycles up.
