Update to 14th March St Andrews Terrace Home Invasion – Further Arrests: 

Earlier Release: 

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Investigations Unit have arrested two persons in relation to a home invasion that occurred on the 14th of March at a St. Andrew’s Terrace residence.  It is alleged that during the incident, the homeowner was sprayed in the face with bear mace and the two forced their way inside. A laptop, a lock box and a purse were stolen from the home and the victim received non-life threatening injuries.  As a result of the investigation, Brent Simpson, age 40, of 282 Spadina Avenue was charged with one count of break and enter, one count of disguise with intent and one count of administering a noxious thing with intent to endanger life or cause bodily harm.  He is to appear in bail court this morning.  The second accused, Cindy Morissette, age 33, of 802 Bonney Street was charged with one count of break and enter.  She is to appear in court on the 14th of May.

Further Arrests:

Detectives with Investigation Services have arrested two further persons in relation to this home invasion.  Crystal Dawn Simpson, of no fixed address and 45 year-old William Derek Kingston, of no fixed address, were arrested on the weekend.  William Kingston has been charged with one count of break and enter, one count of assault with a weapon, one count of disguise with intent and one count of administering a noxious thing with intent to endanger life or cause bodily harm.  Crystal Simpson was charged with one count of break and enter, one count of disguise with intent and one count of administering a noxious thing with intent to endanger life or cause bodily harm.  Both are to appear in bail court this morning. 

A male will be appearing in bail court charged with mischief in relation to a domestic incident. 

Female Driver Charged with Consuming over the Legal Limit:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 27 year-old Chen Hanchao of #8-171B Willow Avenue on Great Northern Road on the 15th of April at 2:25 am.  She has been charged with one count of consume over the legal limit and is to appear in court on the 14th of May.  It is alleged that on the 15th of April at approximately 2:20 am the accused was an involved driver in minor rear-end collision on Bruce Street at Pim Street. As officers approached the scene, the accused drove off.  Police stopped the vehicle a short distance away and at the time the accused was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested. 

Two Persons Charged with Theft in relation to Shoplifting Incidents:

Officers arrested 44 year-old Rhonda Burns of #106-441 Queen Street West on the 14th of April and charged her with two counts of theft under $5,000.00.  It is alleged that on that date the accused stole some candy from the Dollarama store and several items from the Value Village store on Northern Avenue.  She is to appear in court on the 14th of May. 

Officers arrested 50 year-old Greg Sherwin of 32 Blucher Street (main floor) on the 13th of April at Zellers in the Station Mall and charged him with one count of theft under $5,000.00.  It is alleged that he stole a chocolate bar from the store on that date.  He is to appear in court on the 14th of May. 

Male Arrested on Outstanding Warrant: 

Officers arrested 45 year-old Dwayne Guy of 1052 Wellington Street East on an outstanding warrant on the 15th of April and charged him with one count of breach of probation and on count of break and enter.  He is to appear in court on the 28th of May.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service conducted a RIDE Program on Saturday evening – Results:

  • 360 vehicles checked 
  • 5 roadside tests administered
  • 1 breath test administered 
  • 1 90-day ADLS over .80
  • 2 3-day suspensions
  • 1 253 (b) consume over the legal limit charge under the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 8 other Provincial Offences Notices

Break and Enter/Theft Reports: 

  • A garage on Abbott Street was broken into on Sunday.  A purple and white tiger stripe drum set was reported taken.
  • A residence on Turner Avenue was broken into on Sunday.  Prescription medication was stolen.
  • A residence in the 500 block of Wellington Street East was broken into over the past two weeks.  Copper pipes were reported taken. 
  • A garage was reported broken into sometime over the past week – nothing was reported stolen.
  • An attempt break and enter was reported to a west end auto shop business at approximately 1:55 am on the 15th of April.  A window was smashed, the alarm was activated and the suspect ran off. 
  • An apartment in the 1000 block of Wellington Street East was broken into – nothing was reported taken.
  • A residence on Albion Street was entered on the 14th of April – a purse was stolen.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service reminds the public of some break and enter prevention tips:

  • Make your home appear occupied when you go out.
  • Lock all doors and windows.
  • Leave lights on and the radio playing.
  • Keep your garage door closed and locked.
  • Use timing devices to turn inside lights on and off.
  • Lock all sheds. 
  • Install an alarm system.
