Police have arrested a 24-year-old.

A 24-year-old faces charges of assaulting and resisting police following an incident on May 15.

At around 4:10 p.m., officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were dealing with an unrelated call in the 700 block of Great Northern Road when they were told someone was trying to get into their cruiser.

Officers removed the person from the cruiser and attempted to move them along. But police say the person followed police and raised his fists to fight them.

"Officers attempted to gain physical control of the accused who pulled away and resisted," a news release says. "They were arrested."

Ryan Jones was charged with:

  • Assault peace officer x2
  • Resist peace officer

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Jones is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
