The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says a man taken to hospital earlier this month after a confrontation at Albert Street East and Bruce Street has died.

The incident occurred on Oct. 18 and involved two men who knew each other, police say.

At the time police said the man taken to hospital was in critical condition and another man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Investigators continue to look into the incident.

"A determination with regards to the charges will take place at a later date," several months away, said police spokesperson Lincoln Louttit.

Justin Tessier, 31, is charged with aggravated assault and breach of a recognizance.

Police say the victim's name will not be released at the request of the family.
