Man faces numerous theft and firearm charges

On Aug. 9, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division and Break and Enter Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 23-year-old Tyler Vary of Amherst Street on outstanding warrants for multiple offences.

It is alleged that on July 25, 2017, the accused attended a business in the 600 block of McDonald Avenue while in the company of another male. The two males went into the business with their faces covered while carrying metal objects and demanding items from the staff.

Both accused persons fled the area after the robbery and police were contacted. 

On July 30, 2017, (it is alleged that) the accused stole a vehicle belonging to a person known to him from the 100 block of Amherst Street. Later, on Aug. 1, 2017 it was alleged that the accused entered a residence in the 100 block of Amherst Street and took 11 firearms and ammunition from a locked receptacle in the residence.

The accused was located by police on Aug. 9, 2017 and was taken into custody. He has been charged with:

  • One count of robbery,
  • One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • One count of wearing a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence,
  • One count of theft of a motor vehicle,
  • One count of break and enter,
  • 11 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • 11 counts of possession of a firearm while knowing its possession is unauthorized,
  • Three counts of possession of a restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized,
  • 11 counts of possession of a firearm obtained by crime; and,
  • Four counts of possession of stolen property.

He was held for bail court.
