Man faces kidnapping, robbery, weapons charges after December incident

Police say the accused forced a victim to deposit a fraudulent cheque with a concealed firearm

A Sault man has been accused of kidnapping and extortion with a firearm.

Police say on Dec. 12, 2020, the accused used a concealed firearm to force a victim to deposit a fraudulent cheque into their account and withdraw money. Police also report that the accused remained with the victim until the following day, when he then forced the victim to attempt to withdraw more money.

In a news release issued today, police say the accused attended a business in the 500 block of Korah Rd. last night, selected items, and left without attempting to pay.

On January 6, 2021 officers with Patrol Services and Investigation Services charged 56-year-old Frank Caicco with kidnapping. He was detained by security staff and police were notified.

Upon arrival the accused was arrested.

As a result, Frank Caicco, 56, was charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement, two counts of extortion while using a firearm, two counts of robbery with a firearm, eight counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, theft under $5,000 and three counts of breach of probation.

He was held for bail court.
