A 28-year-old faces impaired charges after an incident that took place earlier this week, Sault Ste. Marie Police said in a news release issued today.

Police say they responded to a call at around 1 a.m. yesterday of a vehicle striking a utility pole in the area of Bruce Street and Algoma Avenue.

When they arrived, police say they saw the accused got out of the driver's side of the vehicle. After speaking to the accused, police said they developed grounds to believe he was impaired by alcohol.

He was arrested and later failed two breathalyzer tests, the police release states.

As a result, Sylvio Montgomery, 28, faces charges of:

  • impaired driving – alcohol and drugs and
  • impaired driving – blood alcohol concentration (80+).

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 20, 2021.
