Man charged with using shovel to smash car window downtown — at 3 a.m.

Sault Police have charged a 52-year-old with mischief after an incident early this morning.

While patrolling the downtown area at around 3:20 a.m., officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service saw an individual smash the window of a vehicle in a parking lot in the 0-100 block of Elgin Street.

Police say the suspect ran, but was located by police a short time later in the 400 block of Queen Street East.

The person identified themselves as the accused and was arrested by officers.

Clinton Perrault has been charged with mischief under $5,000.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on June 10.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Perrault is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
