Man charged with attempted murder in boardwalk stabbing

25-year-old was arrested shortly after the incident on Thursday afternoon; police say the suspect and the victim did not know each other

A 25-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with an afternoon stabbing on the boardwalk yesterday.

Sault police say the accused the victim did not know each other, suggesting the attack was random.

Emergency crews were called to the boardwalk, directly behind Station Mall, at around 1 p.m. Thursday. 

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was located nearby and arrested.

Steven Jones faces one count of attempted murder.

He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
