Man accused of assaulting corrections officer at Remand Centre

Sault Ste. Marie Police responded to the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre Thursday after a corrections officer was struck "several times with a pencil."

In a news release issued today, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service stated that the accused, 25-year-old Bradley Southwind, was in custody at the Remand Centre at the time of the incident which occurred Wednesday.

The victim received treatment for minor injuries.

Southwind has been charged with assault and assault with a weapon. He's scheduled to appear in court Oct. 5.
