John Street death declared a homicide, victim was 22-year-old woman

Murder victim identified as Taylor Marshall; no arrests have been made

The suspicious death of a young woman on John Street has been declared a homicide.

Sault police announced today that a 22-year-old woman, Taylor Marshall, was found murdered Thursday evening inside the multi-unit residence near Cathcart Street.

No arrests have been made and police have not identified a suspect.

“Through the investigation detectives determined the victim had received significant injuries and there is suspected foul play in the death,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “The incident is now being investigated as a homicide.”

Officers were called to the scene at around 5 p.m. on Thursday. Police initially said they were investigating a “suspicious death.”

Detectives with Investigation Services executed a search warrant at the residence Friday afternoon.

Anyone who may have a dashcam, doorbell camera or surveillance video — or who may have been in the area on September 7, 2023, before or around 5:00 p.m. — is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Alison Campbell at 705-949-6300, ext. 288.
