Motorists should avoid the area

2:07 p.m. update:

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service confirms that a male suspect is in custody and a male victim taken to hospital following an incident downtown Friday afternoon.

The incident, which city police responded to just after 1:30 p.m., took place in the 400 block of Queen Street East. 

The investigation is ongoing.

Officers have the area around March Street and the Canada Post building blocked to traffic. Motorists should avoid the area.
