Stabbing reported in Ron Francis Way incident (12:45 p.m. update)

One person transported to hospital following Friday morning altercation

12:45 p.m. update:
One person suffered stab wounds during an altercation on Ron Francis Way this morning, says a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. The individual was taken to hospital for treatment.

A vehicle was also driven into partition in the GFL Memorial Gardens parking lot.

"Detectives with Investigation Services are currently working to determine who the other people involved in the altercation are," the release says. "At this time, it is not believed the injured person and the others involved are known to each other."

The area is now clear, and traffic if flowing normally.

11:17 a.m. update:
Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is investigating after one person was transported to hospital following an undisclosed incident in the vicinity of GFL Memorial Gardens, according to a news release issued Friday morning.  

Ron Francis Way between Queen Street East and Bay Street is currently closed. Police have advised the public to use alternate routes during its investigation.

There is heavy police presence downtown. Bruce Street is closed off and police are also in the area around GFL Memorial Gardens. The Emergency Services Unit vehicle is on the scene. The forensics vehicle is also on the scene. More information will be made available when it arrives.
