Gun goes off as police surround Albert Street home

On June 26, 2018 officers with the Emergency Services Unit, Patrol Services Division and Investigation Services Division of The Sault Ste. Marie Police searched a residence in the 300-block of Albert Street West in relation to firearms offences and 2 individuals that were wanted.

As a result, 24-year-old Brandon Wyatt of Old Garden River Road, 20 year old Bailey Guzzo of Second Line West, 24 year old Kassidy Wigwas of Boston Avenue and 25-year-old Joseph Boyer of no fixed address were taken into custody. 

Upon arrival officers contained the residence and observed the 4 individuals exit a window of the residence and climb up to the roof.  Once on the rooftop, one of the accused persons threw a firearm off of the roof to the ground below. The firearm hit the ground and a single round was discharged in close proximity to officers that were standing below. 

Nobody was injured when the firearm was discharged.  Officers were able to safely retrieve the firearm and found it to be a semi-automatic .22 caliber rifle.  There was a magazine inserted into the rifle with multiple rounds in it.  The barrel had been cut and the stock was modified to function as a pistol grip.

Officers entered the residence and all 4 individuals were taken into custody.  Upon searching the residence, officers located a large amount of ammunition and another rifle barrel. 

It is also alleged that on May 3, 2018 the accused, Brandon Wyatt broke into a business in the 1100-block of Great Northern Road.  The accused took a number of items from the business and caused damage to the window of a motor vehicle that was parked there.

It is alleged that on June 14, 2018 the accused, Joseph Boyer uttered a threat to a male that was known to him while holding a firearm. 

Bailey Guzzo and Kassidy Wigwas have been charged with:

  • One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • One count of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized,
  • One count of possession of a loaded firearm, and;
  • One count of carless storage of ammunition

Upon her arrest Kassidy Wigwas was also found to be in possession of a small amount of crack cocaine.  She has also been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance.

Brandon Wyatt has been charged with:

  • One count of break and enter,
  • One count of mischief under $5,000,
  • One count of breach of probation,
  • One count of possession of a loaded firearm,
  • One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • One count of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, and;
  • One count of careless storage of ammunition

Joseph Boyer has been charged with;

  • One count of uttering threats,
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition in contravention of a court order,
  • Two counts of breach of probation,
  • Two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, and;
  • Two counts of possession of a loaded firearm

All four individuals were held for bail court. 

Firearms safety is a very important part of gun ownership.  Any unauthorized modifications to a firearm are illegal and can be extremely dangerous.  Any individual that may be in lawful possession of a firearm that they no longer want, or do not know how to lawfully dispose of can contact The Sault Ste.
