Youth Charged with Theft

A 15-year-old male youth was arrested on the 27th of September at 11:52 p.m. on Cameron Avenue and charged with one count of theft under $5,000, one count of attempt theft, one count of resist or obstruct a peace officer and two counts of threaten death or bodily harm.

It is alleged that on the 27th of September at 11:15 p.m. the accused entered a pickup truck on Cameron Avenue and attempted to steal it.

The youth was observed inside the vehicle by a neighbour who went to check out what his dog was barking at.

The neighbour approached the truck and the youth attempted to flee but he was able to take hold of the youth before he fled.

The youth struggled with the neighbour and the vehicle owner heard them outside, called police and went to assist.

Police attended and the male was arrested.

The youth [allegedly] gave officers a false name and also [allegedly] threatened to kill the witness and vehicle owner.

The youth is to appear in bail court this morning.

Annual Fall Seatbelt Campaign Underway:

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service along with members of the Sault Ste. Marie O.P.P. have been conducting seatbelt

checkpoints at various locations in the Sault Area. With approximately 1600 vehicles being checked thus far, 107

drivers are facing various charges. Most of the charges are for failing to wear their seat belts.

Seatbelt checks will continue throughout October and through the Thanksgiving Holiday. So, buckle up or risk a fine of

$110.00 and two demerit points. Remember “Seatbelts Save Lives”.
