Joint Drug Investigation Results in Numerous Weapons and Drug Related Charges

Between September 2009 and the 16th of September 2010, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OPP) conducted an investigation into drug possession and trafficking within the city of Sault Ste. Marie. As a result of that investigation, on the evening of the 15th September 2010, Lorraine Matuszyk age 51 of 206 Spruce Street and Marc Gollain, age 32 of 1651 Grainery Lake Road, Blind River were arrested and charged with six counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking in relation to cannabis marihuana (25 pounds), cannabis resin (15 pounds), cannabis hashish (2.5 pounds), cocaine (10 ounces), Oxycodone (56 tablets) and morphine tablets (67). The accused were also found in possession of various packaging materials. Officers also located a stolen semi-automatic .22 caliber pistol and in relation to this, both accused were charged with one count of careless storage of a firearm, one count of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, one count of possession of a firearm knowing possession unauthorized and one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm. When the accused Marc Gollain was arrested, he was found in possession of a prohibited weapon – a knife that opens with centrifugal force and was further charged with one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. Officers also seized approximately $25,000.00 in cash, seized as offence related property. The approximate street value of the drugs seized is $441,000.00.

The accused persons have been remanded in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday. The investigation is ongoing, further charges are pending and there are no further details to be released at this time.

Two Domestic Related Arrests for Bail Court This Morning
A 29 year-old male was arrested on the 16th of September at 11:05 pm at the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service building after turning himself in with regards to a domestic related incident. He has been charged with one count of unlawfully in a dwelling house and three counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 15th of September the accused attended at his ex-girlfriend’s residence, entered the home unwanted and harassed her. At the time the accused was on probation with conditions that he keep the peace, be good, not attend at her residence and not to communicate with her.

A 19 year-old male was arrested by Sault Ste Marie Police Service officers last evening and charged with one count of criminal harassment, one count of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that from the 19th of August to the 16th of September the accused called his ex-girlfriend several times and threatened to kill her. At the time of the offences, the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good.

Wanted Male Arrested on Outstanding Warrant
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 45 year-old Larry Lavigne of 5 Culdasack W Elliot Lake was arrested on an outstanding warrant on the 16th September at 9:53 at the court house and charged with one count of break, enter and commit. It is alleged that on the 3rd of September the accused broke into a residence of a person known to him, stole some cigarettes and the complainant’s vehicle. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Male Charged with Assault with A Weapon
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Investigations Unit arrested 19 year-old Nathan Zacharie of #2-215 Turner Avenue on Northern Avenue yesterday afternoon and charged him with one count of assault with a weapon. It is alleged that the accused was wanted for his involvement in an incident that took place on the 25th of April when he struck a male with a steel pole several times in the back area. The incident took place in the parking lot of a local east end convenience store. He is to appear in court on the 18th of October.

Four Males Arrested and Charged with Drug Possession
On the 16th of September, officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were dispatched to the dead end area of East DunRobin Bay for a complaint of a suspicious vehicle parked with several males inside. Officers attended in the area, checked the van and at the time they found the male occupants inside allegedly smoking marijuana. The males were also found in possession of approximately 7.8 grams of marijuana and various drug paraphernalia. As a result the following four males were all charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and are to appear in court on the 18thof October.
1) 20 year-old Danny Ryan, of 26 Harper Street, Prince Township.
2) 19 year-old Dylan Mcintomney of 116 Second Line West.
3) 18 year-old Darren Gabrylewicz of 22 Haywood Road, Prince Township.
4) 18 year-old Cody Knight of 645 Shafer Avenue.

Break and Enter
A residence in the 300 block of Spadina Avenue was entered yesterday morning. A Diamond DVD player was taken.

Thefts/Mischief Reports:
• Vehicles were damaged and broken into on Glasgow Avenue, and several in the Station Mall parking lot yesterday. An iPod, a GPS a Digital camera, change, a School and Lunch bag, eyeglasses lottery tickets and coffee mugs were reported stolen.
• A shed in the 300 block of Goulais Avenue was damaged.
