RESIDENTS CAN RETURN HOME
No gas vapours had been detected at any of the monitoring sites in homes or the sewer system as of noon today. As a result, families that have remained evacuated since Wednesday are being allowed to return to their homes subsequent to the screening of each building. Residents are cautioned not to go directly home but to check in at the police command center at Bruce and Wellington. The command trailer may be reached at 946-9291. It is expected that two lanes of Bruce Street will be open later this afternoon. Bruce Street has been closed and families evacuated following the Wednesday morning derailment of a tanker car near the Bruce Street crossing.
