Investigation Services and Patrol Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service have charged 38 year-old Cindy Diamond of #5-569 Queen Street East West in relation to several purse snatching incidents that have occurred over the past two weeks at local stores and at the Sault Ste Marie Casino. The accused was arrested at 5:20 am this morning by OPP officers stationed at the Sault Ste. Marie Casino and turned over to City Police. She has been remanded into custody until a bail hearing on Monday.

It is alleged that the accused is responsible for the following Incidents:

1) On the 9th of October, the accused attended at Zellers on Northern Avenue and stole a purse from the shopping cart of a shopper at the customer service desk area.
2) On the 16th of October she attended at the Wal Mart Super Centre with co-accused Ryan Wills – (released earlier today 7 am News) and stole a purse from a shopper’s cart. The victim reported her purse stolen and immediately cancelled her credit cards that had been inside. A short time later, the two accused attended at Zellers on Northern Avenue and attempted to use the credit card to purchase several items, but were unsuccessful when the card was declined. They then went to the Canadian Tire Gas Bar and made two purchases using the stolen credit card.
3) On the 18th of October the accused attended at Value Village on Northern Avenue and stole a purse from a shopper’s cart.
4) On the 21st of October the accused attended at Rome’s Independent Grocers on Great Northern Road and stole a purse from a cart of a shopper in the produce area.
5) On the 21st of October at approximately 6:38 pm the accused attended at the Sault Ste Marie Casino, stole a purse from a person inside the casino and left. The accused later emptied out the victim’s purse in a near-by parking lot, taking the credit cards, traveler’s cheques, cash and identification from it.
6) On the 22nd of October, just after midnight, the accused stole a purse from a victim inside the casino and left. The accused re-entered the Casino at approximately 5:20 am this morning and attempted to cash the stolen traveler’s cheques and was arrested by the OPP. At the time of her arrest, the accused she was found in possession of items stolen from some of the victims.

As a result the accused Cindy Diamond has been charged with six Counts of Theft under $5,000.00, two counts of Possession of Stolen Property, three counts of Possession or Use of Stolen Credit Card two counts of Possession of Stolen Property and two counts of Breach of a Release Document. .
