Impaired Driving 40 year old Arvo Leppanen of 25 Wellington Street West Apt#3 has been charged with 1 count of impaired driving and 1 count of consuming alcohol over the legal limit.
Impaired Driving

40 year old Arvo Leppanen of 25 Wellington Street West Apt#3 has been charged with 1 count of impaired driving and 1 count of consuming alcohol over the legal limit. It’s believed that on the 22nd of November the accused was traveling north on Lake Street Operating a 2006 Chevy vehicle. When he approached McNabb Street he struck a 1995 Nissan which was stopped at the lights, from behind. Police responded to the collision and found Mr. Leppanen to be under the influence of alcohol. There were no injuries reported at the scene and the vehicles each sustained moderate damage. Mr. Leppanen will be appearing in court on the 7th of January.

Four Counts of Assault

A 21 year old male has been charged with 4 counts of assault and 1 count of breach of probation order. It is believed that the accused while at his girlfriends residence on the 19th of July 2007, assaulted her by pushing and punching her then throwing a cigarette butt at her face. In November around the 21st, the accused again assaulted the victim by choking her with his arm around her neck. Yesterday at approximately 9pm officers attended at the residence of the accused in the west end and arrested him. He is scheduled to appear in bail court. The accused had been on a probation order to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The victim did not require medical attention.

More Assault Charges

27 year old Dayna Johnston of 94 Allard Street has been charged with 1 count of assault. It is alleged that the accused became irate while at the Sault Area Hospitals and assaulted a staff member. Police attended and charged the accused who is scheduled to appear in court on the 7th of January. The victim in this matter suffered a bruised arm and did not require medical attention.

Theft

A 12 year old boy has been charged with 1 count of theft. The boy who cannot be identified was observed at a west end elementary school taking a wallet and $40 from a staff storage area. Police were called and the accused was arrested. He is scheduled to appear in court on the 8th of January.

Break & Enter

Officers took one report of a break and enter over the last 24 hours. A residence on Johnson Avenue was broken into sometime over the last 4 days. Nothing was taken but some property has been damaged.
