Several People Arrested Members of the Sault Ste.
Several People Arrested

Members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Patrol Services, Emergency Services Unit and Investigations Services have arrested several persons overnight and early this morning in relation to an investigation involving stolen property, illegal drugs and firearms. Nine persons are currently in custody. Six adult males, one adult female and two male youths are facing numerous charges, including possession of stolen property, possession and production of illegal drugs and unauthorized possession of firearms. The arrests were made at four separate locations in the city. A male adult was arrested last evening at approximately 4:21 pm at a residence on Cathcart Street. Another male was arrested at 1:45 am this morning on Smale Avenue and two male youths were arrested at 10:43 pm on Bruce Street. The remaining five adults were arrested at 7:05 am this morning at a residence on Albert Street East during the execution of a search warrant. Numerous firearms, a quantity of marijuana and stolen property have been seized.

Identity and Charges of Accused Persons:

22 year-old John Souriol of #2-42 Cathcart Street arrested on the 19th of November at 4:21 pm at his residence has been charged with one count of careless storage of a firearm, one count of possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to the public, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of possession of a weapon obtained by crime and one count of possession of stolen property.

Two male youths, 16 and 17 years of age, arrested at 10:43 last night on Bruce Street were both charged with one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of careless use of a firearm, one count of possession of a weapon obtained by crime and one count of breach of probation.

28 year-old James Wilson of 167 Poplar Avenue arrested at 1:45 am on the 20th of November on Smale Avenue has been charged with one count of careless storage of a firearm, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm while prohibited, one count of possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to the public, one count of possession of stolen property, three counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of production of a controlled drug or substance, one count of robbery and one count of breach of probation.

Five Persons all arrested at 7:05 am this morning during the execution of a search warrant at 44 Albert Street East were all charged with one count of careless storage of a firearm, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, one count of possession of stolen property, two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of production of a controlled drug or substance.
1) 24 year-old Chantel Richards of 44 Albert Street East
2) 19 year-old Timothy Chamings of 44 Albert Street East
3) 26 year-old Brian Renner of 44 Albert Street East.
4) 25 year-old Thomas Renner of 44 Albert Street East
5) 23 year-old Albert Rankin of 44 Albert Street East

As a result of this investigation and arrests the following was recovered and seized:
• Nine firearms, including rifles and a shotgun that were reported stolen in a break and enter to a residence on North Street earlier this month.
• A quantity of illegal drugs seized, including marijuana, cannabis resin, codeine and six marijuana plants.
• A stolen Laptop computer stolen from a break and enter to a recent Cathcart residence.

There is no further information to release at this time. All have been remanded into custody and are to appear in bail court on Monday the 23rd of November.

Male Arrested for Sexual Offences:

19 year-old James Tregonning of 65 Francis Street was arrested on the 19th November at 5:14 pm at his residence and charged with one count of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference and one count of invitation to sexual touching. It is alleged that from July until November the accused sexually assaulted and touched a female under the age of 16 years in an inappropriate sexual manner. The accused and the victim are known to each other. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

Male with Bat Arrested for Assault Incidents:

37 year-old Brian Marion of 44 Village Road in Blind River was arrested around 1:30 am on the 19th of November on Albert Street East and charged with one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to public, one count of assault peace officer, one count of breach of probation and one count of being intoxicated in a public place. It is alleged that around 1:30 am on the19th of November, City Police received an unrelated disturbance call to a residence on Albert Street East and when they arrived in the area, they observed a male that appeared to be in an intoxicated state carrying a baseball bat. When police attempted to speak with him, he was uncooperative and attempted to kick one of the officers. The accused was subsequently arrested and brought to the station. A few hours later, police learned that the same accused had been involved in an incident a few hours earlier on Hughes Street, where he allegedly approached a male that was sitting in a car, smashed the driver’s side window and then struck the male with the bat. The victim and the accused were known to each other and the victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result. Officers further charged the accused with one count of assault with a weapon, one count of mischief and one count of breach of probation. At the time of both incidents, the accused was on probation to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The accused was to appear in bail court yesterday morning.

Domestic Related Arrests:

1) An 18 year-old male was arrested on the 19th of November at 10:38 pm on Great Northern Road and charged with one count of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of criminal harassment. It is alleged that from the 11th to the 17th of November the accused phoned his ex-girlfriend numerous times and also made threats to harm her. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

2) A 29 year-old male was arrested at his residence on the 19th of November on an outstanding domestic related warrant. He is to appear in bail court this morning.
