The Sault Ste. Marie City Police are once again reminding all motorists to consciously consider safety whenever they get behind the wheel.

Please be aware that Carmen’s Way is now opened to traffic and all motorists must obey the traffic signals. The speed limit on Carmen’s Way is 50km/h and is for motorized vehicles only. City Police have been patrolling the area and are enforcing the traffic laws and by-laws on Carmen’s Way. If you fail to follow the rules of the road, you could face one of the following charges.

Stop sign - fail to stop Fine $105.00 3 points
Amber light – fail to stop Fine $180.00 3 points
Red light – fail to stop Fine $180.00 3 points

Pedestrians and cyclists are being urged to use the sidewalk and bike paths provided. Pedestrians choosing to walk on the roadway face a fine of $55.00.

A crossing guard has been provided for Etienne Brule students in the morning at 8:30am, at lunch hour and at 3:30pm. She is situated near Albert Street on Carmen’s Way. Please be extra cautious when traveling this stretch of roadway. Motorists who fail to stop for a crossing guard face the following charge.

Break & Enters

City Police received two Break and Enter reports in the last 24-hour period. A home in the 100 block of Poplar Avenue was broken into between the hours of 2pm and 3:30pm. 10 bottles of liquor were taken.
In the second Break and Enter Smack Daddy’s at 652 Wallace Terrace was entered over night on the 9th of November. An undisclosed amount of money was taken in this incident.

Bear Sighting

Earlier this morning officers checked the area of Trunk Road and Tuckett Street after a call came in advising there were two bears in the area. The bears were not located.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Police investigated 6 motor vehicle collisions and performed 12 Motor Vehicle stops Since the 9th of November and would like to remind motorist to adjust their driving habits according to weather conditions. Wet roads can become slippery and dangerous. Always use caution when traveling.
