Update on Fire Investigators from the City Police have determined that yesterday’s fire that caused severe damage to a home in the 100 block of Bruce Street was deliberately set.

Investigators from the City Police have determined that yesterday’s fire that caused severe damage to a home in the 100 block of Bruce Street was deliberately set. The City Police have determined that the fire was started in 2 separate locations. Officers from the City Police Forensic Unit have seized a number of samples from the crime scene for analysis. Officers from Investigation Services are continuing to investigate this arson and are asking the public for their assistance in solving this crime. Male Charged with Assault

29-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested early this morning. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his girlfriend by pushing her while in the downtown area and threatening to kill her. It is also alleged that the accused assaulted the same victim sometime in the month of May by kicking her while in a downtown residence. The accused has been charged with 2 counts of assault and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm.

Male Resists Arrest

A 37-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after it is alleged he assaulted his girlfriend last night while in the downtown area but punching and kicking the victim, in addition to threatening her. When officers arrested the accused he resisted arrest. The accused has been charged with one count of assault, one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and one count of resist arrest.

Two Counts of Breach of Probation

1)A 16-year old youth will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested just before 11 pm. Officers checked the youth outside a downtown address and a police query revealed the accused was to notify any change of address and failed to do so. The accused was also on probation with terms not to consume alcohol and officers noted the smell of alcohol on the youth’s breath. The accused was on a curfew condition of 10 pm to 7 am to be in the home residence. The youth has been charged with one count of breach of a release order and two counts of breach of probation.

2)45-year old Ron Noel of 75 Grace Street will also appear in bail court his morning after being arrested and charged with one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that around 9 pm officers spoke to the accused in the downtown area on Queen Street East. A police query revealed the accused was to be in his residence from 4 pm to 12 noon daily. The accused was subsequently arrested.

Break and Enter

Last evening City Police attended at Toni’s Cakery located at 177 Gore Street for an attempt break and enter. It appears that would be thieves tried to gain entry but were unsuccessful in their attempt.

Female Charged with Theft

21-year old Tineka Huffels of basement-163 Allard Street will appear in court on June 22nd. It is alleged that yesterday afternoon the accused took makeup from Rome’s Grocery Store and left without paying for it. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to City Police. She has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000. The value of the makeup was under $30.

Male Charged with being Intoxicated in a Public Place

Daniel McNamara, age 29, of 409-137 East Street was arrested around 11:30 pm last night at a centrally located drinking establishment. It is alleged that the accused was causing a disturbance by being drunk and when officers went to arrest the accused resisted. The accused has been charged with one count of being intoxicated in a public place and one count of resist arrest and will appear in court on July 4th.
