Victim of Fatal Fire on Wellington Street East Identified The female victim of the May 19th fatal fire at 606 Wellington St. E. has been identified as 48-year-old Leeanne Elizabeth Hill, of 606 Wellington St. E.

The female victim of the May 19th fatal fire at 606 Wellington St. E. has been identified as 48-year-old Leeanne Elizabeth Hill, of 606 Wellington St. E.

The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office and the Sault Ste Marie Police Service are still at the scene investigating the origin of the fire. No other details are available at this time.

Update to May 6, 2011 Carpin Beach Road Motor Vehicle Fatal Collision - Charges Laid

As a result of the investigation of the fatal motor vehicle collision on Carpin Beach Road on May 6th, 2011, officers with Traffic Services have charged 46 year old J.Guiseppe Mignacca of 1292 Second Line West with one count of Turn Not in Safety contrary to Section 142(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

Earlier Releases: Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

On May 6, 2011 at approximately 5:37 p.m. officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were called to Carpin Beach Road south of Base Line for a motor vehicle collision between a south bound pick-up truck and a northbound off road style dirt bike. Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and the adult male driver of the off road dirt bike was taken to the Sault Area Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Investigators from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Traffic and Forensic Units are presently on scene investigating the accident.

Persons to appear in bail court:

At approximately 12:30 am this morning the Sault Ste Marie Police Service received several calls regarding guns shots being heard in the area of Wellington St. W and Carmen’s Way. A short time later police received a call that a man was inside the John St. Tim Horton’s with a sawed shot gun. When police arrived at the coffee shop the male, later identified as Nathan Madison, dropped his weapon and surrendered to the police. Police investigation reveled that the accused male was in possession of a sawed off shotgun that he had been discharging in the area of Wellington St. W. and Carmen’s Way. It is further alleged that the accused was not authorized to be in possession of a firearm and that the firearm that the accused was in possession of was reported stolen in October 2010. It is further alleged that when the accused was searched officers found 31 methamphetamine pills on his person.

Nathan Madison, age 23, of 293 Wellington St. W. Apt # 1 is charged with the following offences:
1. Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
2. Careless use of a firearm.
3. Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
4. Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized.
5. Possession of a prohibited weapon.
6. Possession of a prohibited weapon obtained by crime.
7. Possession of property obtained by crime.
8. Reckless discharge of a firearm.
9. Possession of a substance.

Female arrested for theft:

Yesterday evening members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 32-year-old female for theft under $ 5,000 and breach of a recognizance. It is alleged that the accused attended at the Zellers Store and stole a box of pots and pans. The accused was arrested by store security and turned over to city police. At the time of this offence the accused was on a recognizance release order and also on probation. Jacqueline Gray, age 32, of 24 Rupert Acres is charged with one count of theft under $ 5,000, one count of breach of a recognizance and one count of breach of probation.

Two persons to appear in bail court:

Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service “Street Team” arrested two young males for breaching conditions of their probation orders. It is alleged that the two accused persons were present when officers located marihuana at a residence on Goulais Ave. At the time of the offence the two accused were both on probation with conditions to keep the peace and to not communicate with one another.
The 18-year-old male accused is charged with 5 counts of breach of probation.
The 17-year-old male accused is charged with two counts of breach of probation.

Male arrested for possession of a substance.

Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service “Street Team” arrested a 21-year-old male for possession of a substance and obstruct police. It is alleged that the accused was in possession of 3.1 grams of marihuana and when officers attempted to seize it from the accused he obstructed police.
Jonathan Beharriell, age 21, of 85 Pardee Ave is charged with one count of obstruct police and one count of possession of a substance. Mr. Beharriell is to appear in court on June 27th at 9:00 am.

Male arrested for impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample:

Yesterday evening members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 40-year-old male for impaired driving. It is alleged that the accused male was operating a motor vehicle on Great Northern Rd. while his ability to do so was impaired by alcohol. It is further alleged that the accused then refused to provide a breath sample. It is also alleged that the accused was on probation at the time of these offences.
Roy Hamilton, age 40, of 497 Sherbourne St is charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of refuse breath sample and one count of breach of probation. Mr. Hamilton is to appear in court on June 20th at 9:00 am.

Property Crimes:

Break and enter:

City police received a report of a break and enter to a residence in the 100 block of West St. Electronics were reported stolen.

Mischief:
Vehicles were reported damaged in the 100 block of March St. and the 100 block of Gore St.

Theft:
City police received several reports of vehicle entered and items stolen.
Thefts were reported from the following locations:
The 100 block of Wellington St. W. – a wallet and cash was stolen
The 100 block of Cathcart St. –a wallet was stolen.
The 100 block of Queen St. E. a purse was stolen.
The 300 block of Moody St. – unknown what was taken at this time.
The 300 block of Franklin St. –electronic were reported stolen.
The 100 block of Gore St. – cash was taken.
