Youths Caught Entering Vehicles

Three young people were picked up by City Police early this morning after they were seen going through vehicles near Pine Plaza.

The arrests were made between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Police recovered coins, a tape cassette and other things believed to be from the vehicles.

The trio, who cannot be named under Ontario's Youth Criminal Justice Act, are charged with possession of stolen property.

They spent the night in police custody and are being released to their parents today, with a May 10 court date.

Quick Change Scammer Caught

A Guelph man was arrested yesterday by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service in connection with a series of recent quick-change incidents across the City.

William Wilson, 28, was nabbed at the Trunk Road Quick Mart around 3 p.m.

He's charged with five counts of fraud, and one of theft at Zellers.

Four of the alleged frauds took place this week along Trunk Road: at the Quick Mart, McDonald's, Petro Canada and Mr. Sub.

The fifth incident happened on Monday at the Foremost Pets Store on Great Northern Road.

Police asked for help in that case on Wednesday, reporting that a Caucasian male in his mid 20s with a thin build had bought a small-ticket item and paid for it with a $50 bill.

When the clerk gave the accused the change, he allegedly argued that the clerk owed him $20 more.

Wilson appeared today in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) Court, which uses video technology for bail hearings and consent releases.
