Bear struck by car Yesterday evening at approximately 6:40 pm city police were called to attend on Second Line E at Black Rd. near the soccer fields regarding a bear that was struck by a car.

Yesterday evening at approximately 6:40 pm city police were called to attend on Second Line E at Black Rd. near the soccer fields regarding a bear that was struck by a car. Information was received that a bear ran across Second Line E. and was struck by a car. The bear was injured and fled into the bush area.

Citizens informed the police that the bear could be heard growling in the bush area. It was feared that the injured bear could pose a danger to the public and therefore had to be located. Police officers located a black bear that was seriously injured and dispatched it. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and his car suffered very minor damage

One person to appear in bail court
Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 28-year-old female for mischief, breach of probation and breach of an undertaking. It is alleged that at 9:15 am yesterday morning the accused attended at a downtown residence and damaged a window to a room being rented by her ex-common-law partner.

It is further alleged that when police located the accused she was under the influence of alcohol. The accused is presently on probation and on an undertaking release order with conditions to stay away from her ex-common-law partner, not to consume alcohol and to keep the peace.

The accused is charged with one count of mischief under $5,000, one count of breach of an undertaking and two counts of breach of probation.

Male arrested for mischief over $5,000
Yesterday evening members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 34-year-old male for mischief over $5,000. It is alleged that on May 30th the accused, prior to moving out of his old residence in the 600 block of Shafer Ave, caused extensive damage to that residence by breaking the bathroom sink, damaging the shower and by pouring paint through out the residence.

Joseph Bryze, age 34, of 463 Second Line W. Upstairs apartment, is charged with one count of mischief over $5,000. Mr. Bryze is to appear in court on July 11 at 9:00 am.

Youth arrested on a warrant
Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 16-year-old female on a warrant for theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property and failing to appear for court. It is alleged that on December 16, 2010 the accused and another female broke into a vehicle at the Essar Centre and then stole items from that vehicle.

It is further alleged that on May 31, 2011 the accused failed to appear for court. The accused is charged with one count of theft under $5,000, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of failing to appear for court. She is to appear in court on July 12 at 9:30 am on these charges.

Female arrested for theft under $5,000
Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 50-year-old female for theft. It is alleged that the accused attended at the laundry room in his apartment complex and stole a bag of laundry. Diana Vandette, age 50, of 77 Allard St. apt # 601 is charged with one count of theft under $5,000. Ms. Vandette is to appear in court on July 4 at 9:00 am.

Break and enter
An apartment in the 300 block of John St. was broken into. It is unknown at this time what if anything was taken.

Mischief
A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Simpson St. was damaged.

An apartment door in the 200 block of Beverly St. was damaged.

Theft
Vehicles were entered in the following locations:
1. The 100 block of Summit Ave – miscellaneous items were taken.
2. The 600 block of Wellington St. W. coins were taken.
3. The 300 block of Doncaster Rd. a purse on contents were stolen.
4. The 100 block of Rushmere Dr. miscellaneous items taken.
