Cyclist charged with riding in crosswalk At approximately 10:00 am yesterday morning members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended at the intersection of Second Line W. and Farwell Terr.
Cyclist charged with riding in crosswalk
At approximately 10:00 am yesterday morning members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended at the intersection of Second Line W. and Farwell Terr. regarding a motor vehicle – electric bicycle collision. It is alleged that an electric bicycle was traveling east on the north sidewalk of Second Line W and struck a vehicle stopped at Farwell Terr. The operator of the bicycle was riding in the crosswalk area of the road.

The operator of the electric bike suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment.

Kenneth Dagenais, age 51, of 1046 Peoples Rd. Apt. # 308 was charged with “Cyclist- ride in or along crosswalk” under the Highway Traffic Act.

Motorist charged with disobeying a red light
At approximately 8:10 pm yesterday evening members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended the intersection of Wellington St. E. and Shannon Rd regarding a motor vehicle collision with minor injuries. In the incident it is alleged that the driver of a vehicle traveling north on Shannon Rd. failed to stop for the red traffic light at Wellington St. E. and was struck by a westbound vehicle.

The driver of the northbound vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment.

Donald Townsend, age 77, of 927 Fourth Line E. was charged with: “Disobey red light – fail to stop” under the Highway Traffic Act.

Female arrested for assault
Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested an 18-year-old female for assault. It is alleged that the accused grabbed and punched her common-law partner. The victim did not require medical attention. The accused is charged with one count of assault and is to appear in court on July 27th at 9:30 am.

Female arrested for theft
Yesterday evening members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 20-year-old female for theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused person attended at Joe’s No Frills on Korah Rd. and stole two Power Bars valued at $15.98. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to the police. Sara Hannuksela, age 20, of 646 Queen St. W. is charged with one count of theft under $5,000. Ms. Hannuksela is to appear in court on July 25th at 9:00 am.

Break and Enter
A business compound, in the 100 block of Industrial Park Cres, was broken into yesterday. A quantity of copper wire was stolen.

Mischief
A door at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Old Garden River Rd. was damaged.

A vehicle parked in the 400 block of First Ave was damaged.

Theft
Sporting equipment was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 300 block of First Ave.

Tires were reported stolen from a business in the 100 block of Black Rd.
