Youth Arrested for Theft of Motor Vehicle and Impaired Driving
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 17 year-old male youth just before 5 am this morning and charged him with one count of impaired driving, one count of consume over the legal limit and one count theft over $5,000.

It is alleged that at approximately 4:50 am this morning police received a call form a citizen on St. Patrick Street advising that he had just apprehended a youth that was attempting to steal his neighbour’s truck. Officers arrived and at that time they learned that the accused entered the unlocked vehicle in the driveway and started it after finding the keys inside. The accused attempted to reverse from the driveway but put the vehicle into drive and struck the front porch of the residence.

The neighbour witnessing the incident apprehended the youth and called police. The youth was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested. There was minor damage reported to the porch and vehicle. The accused is to appear in court on the 19th of July.

Two Domestic Related Arrests for Bail Court
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 67 year-old male on the 9th of June at his residence and charged him with one count of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of threaten to damage property. It is alleged that on the 9th of June the accused threatened to kill his common law wife and threatened to burn their home down.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 41 year-old female on the 10th of June at 1:38 am and charged her with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 10th of June at 1:20 am police attended at the residence of the accused for a domestic disturbance call. When officers arrived they discovered that the accused had got into a verbal argument with her boyfriend and assaulted him. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result.

Four Youths Apprehended for Going Through Vehicles
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service apprehended four youths at approximately 3 am this morning in relation to a number of thefts from vehicles in the west and east ends of the city overnight. It is alleged that the youths entered and stole items from a number of vehicles in the Third Line East and Manitou Park areas.

Officers received a call around 2 am this morning regarding the youths in the 100 block of Third Line East when a homeowner’s car alarm was activated when the youths attempted to get in. They were observed fleeing in a white Crown Victoria. Officers checked the area with negative results but got a second call regarding the youths and the same vehicle just before 3 am this morning on Manitou Drive. Officers arriving found that the vehicle had been driven into the ditch on Manitou Drive and apprehended the four youths.

Officers located and recovered several items that the youths had stolen from the vehicles, including two GPS Units, two iPods, a cell phone and some change. Some liquor was also found in their possession. The four youths, three 16 and one 17 year-old, were dealt with under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and also charged with under 19 years having liquor under the Liquor Licence Act.
